RIPE NCC has Approximately Four Million IPv4 Addresses Before Reaching Last /8

Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC has now entered phase one of its approach to reaching the last /8. This means that: - As of Tuesday, 4 September, we have approximately one month (or a /10) worth of IPv4 address space (4,134,976 addresses) to distribute before we reach the last /8. - Our IPRAs are now working in pairs to ensure that all requests are dealt with efficiently and to further ensure fairness, consistency and transparency. This means that our response times may be longer than you have previously experienced. You can find the response times for requests for IPv4 address space at: http://www.ripe.net/lir-services/resource-management/tools-for-lirs/reponse… - Our "call back procedure" has changed. We will now call requestors about their ticket only when their ticket is at the front of the request queue. This will ensure that no ticket is handled outside of the order it was received in. - Depending on the availability in the RIPE NCC’s free pool of IPv4 address space, you may receive multiple smaller prefixes that add up to the size of your request. - The quarantine period in place for returned IPv4 address space before it can be re-used will be gradually decreased. In the last days before we reach the last /8, the quarantine period may be reduced to one week or less. This will ensure that there is no IPv4 address space left in the quarantine pool when we start to allocate from the last /8. Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC has published a new version of the procedural document “Independent Internet Number Resources – Contractual Relationship Changes Between Sponsoring LIR and End User”. This document replaces RIPE Document ripe-516. The procedural document describes the modifications that could be made to a contractual relationship between a sponsoring Local Internet Registry (LIR) and an End User of independent Internet number resources, and the possible consequences of such changes or of failure to communicate these changes to the RIPE NCC. All, This announcement appeared on the IPv6 working group mailing list a few weeks back: -------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 17 Jul 2012 14:28:37 +0200 As announced in earlier, it is possible for RIPE NCC members to do IPv6-traceroutes from all RIPE Atlas probes to IPv6 destinations. In this new article on RIPE Labs we present a first experimental analysis and a prototype visualisation of the traceroute results: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/emileaben/visualise-your-ipv6-connectivity-us… -------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm interested in IPv6, but have no way to access this service since I do not work for an LIR. (To be fair, I might be able to get access by talking to the correct people at the RIPE NCC, but in general this is a closed service.) In the past, I felt like RIPE NCC services tended to be public, unless they were naturally member-oriented. However with this service, I don't see any particular connection with members... except for the fact that they pay for it of course! (An additional minor detail here is that the information comes from RIPE Atlas probes, which do not only sit in LIR networks.) What do other participants in the NCC services working group think about the RIPE NCC providing member-only services? Should there be guidelines about this, or is this something that the RIPE NCC and their members should decide on a case-by-case basis? Cheers, -- Shane

[Apologies for duplicate emails] Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC procedural document, "Due Diligence for the Quality of the RIPE NCC Registration Data", has been published. The document is available at: https://www.ripe.net/ripe/docs/due-diligence The RIPE NCC has a mandate from the RIPE community to keep an up-to-date and correct Internet number resource registry. In order to comply with this mandate, the RIPE NCC performs due diligence on organisations the RIPE NCC registers Internet number resource for. This document outlines the minimum information and documentation the RIPE NCC requires to make sure that the registration data is valid and up-to-date.
