Launching the RIPE NCC Academy

Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC is pleased to announce the launch of the RIPE NCC Academy, a virtual learning environment that allows you to take courses and obtain certificates online: https://academy.ripe.net/ The first course available is the RIPE Database Expert Course. You can sign in to the RIPE NCC Academy with your RIPE NCC Access account (if you don’t already have one, you can easily create one through the link provided). The RIPE NCC Academy is available to everyone, free of charge. Before starting a course, you should know that: - You have 90 days to complete the course from the moment you start it. - We are working to automate the evaluation of all of the activities. In the meantime, some of them need to be checked manually, so you may have to wait for a trainer to review them. - If you’re very confident that you already know all you need to know about the RIPE Database, you can choose to complete the activities without studying the content. - You will earn a certificate when you achieve a score of 70% or better, including all the activities and the final test. - Your certificate will remain valid for three years. The first 100 users to earn a certificate will get a limited edition RIPE NCC Academy Graduate t-shirt. Don’t wait too long - graduate to the next level today! NCC Services WG Chair re-election process

Hello NCC Services WG, The collective of RIPE working group chairpersons has decided that each RIPE working group should have some rules regarding the re-selection of the chairs. Kurtis and I have come up with the following, we’ve tried to keep it light weight and simple so we can easily change if needed for the next round: The RIPE NCC Services Working Group will endeavour to keep two Chair persons whenever possible. Every two years one of the chairs will offer to stand down to allow new candidates to become Chair. The Chair standing down will be announced via email to the working group mailing list, prior to next meeting. Any community members may volunteer for the available position. During the meeting, the working group itself will by consensus establish the new or re-elected working group Chair. If for what ever reason consensus can not be reached or there are no new volunteers the existing Chair will continue their working group duties. Dear colleagues, We still have places left for the new RIPE NCC training course that will take place on the Sunday before the RIPE 69 Meeting in London this November. This new course will focus on how to obtain, transfer, manage and protect your IP address space. The course is free of charge and is open to anyone interested. The course will cover the most frequently asked questions the RIPE NCC receives about IP address space. Course title: RIPE NCC Presents: IP Address Space Basics How to obtain, transfer, manage and protect your IP addresses Goals: By the end of this course, you will be able to: - Manage your IPv4 and IPv6 addresses according to current RIPE Policies - Understand how to obtain IPv4 addresses through transfers - Protect your address space from hijacking Target audience: Anyone interested in the policies and procedures around address space in the RIPE NCC service region, and companies looking at address space transfers, mergers and acquisitions. No prior knowledge of the topic is necessary. Time: Sunday, 2 November, 10:00–16:00 Outline: - Becoming a RIPE NCC member (why and how) - Obtaining IP addresses (IPv4 and IPv6) - IP address space transfers, mergers and acquisitions - IPv6 basics - Address space hijacking - Resource Certification (RPKI) Cost: Free of charge. Implementation Timeline for Phasing Out Text-Based Email Request Forms

Dear colleagues, On 5 August 2014, we sent a request for feedback on our proposal to phase out email-based request forms: https://www.ripe.net/ripe/mail/archives/ncc-services-wg/2014-August/002850.… The two-month period for comments has ended, and we would like to thank you all for your feedback. We have taken into account the concerns raised and adjusted the planned implementation accordingly. A summary of the implementation timeline is provided at the bottom of this email. The main concern we received was that the time frame for members to adjust their internal processes was not long enough. We will therefore extend the proposed implementation to the end of May 2015. As of today, the APIs are available for the following resource requests: - IPv4 First Allocation - IPv6 First Allocation - IPv6 Provider Independent (PI) Assignment - Autonomous System (AS) Number Assignment You can find the APIs and the accompanying documentation at: https://www.ripe.net/data-tools/developer-documentation/resource-request-api We ask that you test these APIs in the coming three months (until 31 January 2015) and check that they are compatible with your workflow. Based on the feedback we receive, the final APIs will be deployed at the end of February 2015. We will then archive the email-based request forms and supporting notes that are published on www.ripe.net. Our systems will continue to accept the email-based request forms for a further three months. From the end of May 2015, email-based request forms will no longer be accepted. Another concern raised was with regards to a fall-back mechanism if the LIR Portal and APIs are not available due to technical problems. In such a situation, we currently accept emails to request resources without syntax changes, and we will continue to have this fall-back mechanism in the future. As a final note, over the past weeks we have worked to improve and simplify the request forms in the LIR Portal. Work has now been completed on all forms. The simplified process means that you can complete a request for any Internet resource quickly and easily. We will also publish the information needed to request resources in a document that replaces the supporting notes and maintains a high level of transparency. We appreciate your feedback on further improvements.
