[Apologies for duplicates] Dear Colleagues, This is a reminder that the IPv6 Deployment Monitoring Survey is online, and we encourage all members of the RIPE community to participate. The final date for submitting a response is Friday, 3 July 2009. Dear Tom, Thank you for your query, and our apologies for any inconvenience that this may have caused. Your email address would have been automatically set to "disabled" after five messages from the list mail server bounced back from your mailbox. This could mean that your mail server was malfunctioning, which would also explain why you didn't receive the notification mail that would have been automatically generated and sent to you. In the run up to the last RIPE meeting, I stopped receiving e-mails from the various RIPE lists to which I am subscribed. I thought it odd that the lists should go quiet at such a time, tried resubscribing to find I was still subscribed and eventually stumbled across 'disabled', which all my lists were. I think that this procedure, of disabling subscriptions without warning, without explanation and for no reason apparent to the subscriber offers room for improvement. I cannot recall ever seeing any announcement about this, at subscription time or later, and having trawled the RIPE web site, I am still none the wiser as to how and why subscriptions get disabled. Even if I were, I imagine that there is nothing on this earth I can do to stop it happening, since I did nothing that I know of to make it happen the first time. Any thoughts? Tom Petch

RIPE NCC response time

Judging by the RIPE statistics posted in regards to hostmaster response time everything is great: http://www.ripe.net/info/stats/rs/rt-hostmaster.html For the last 2 weeks response time is less than 1 day. Well due to the "2007-01 Phase 2 Implementation: Direct Internet Resource Assignments to End Users from the RIPE NCC", I have been submitting tickets to move ASNs assigned to my LIR over a decade ago to other LIRs which are now the owner of that ASN (yet now is billed to my LIR). So starting on June 16 - 6 days ago I submitted 6 "move requests" and even got back ticket acknowledgments: 2009063188, 2009063190, etc. and yesterday a 7th request. Yet, I have not heard back from RIPE NCC. Yet, the stats graphs shows all ticket requests answered within 1 day. Is it just me?! -Hank

IPv6 Deployment Monitoring Survey Now Underway!

[Apologies for duplicates] Dear Colleagues, As announced at RIPE 58, TNO and GNKS Consult are working with the RIPE NCC to conduct a survey, sponsored by the European Commission, on the current and future use of IPv6 throughout the RIPE NCC service region. The IPv6 Deployment Monitoring Survey is now online, and we encourage all members of the RIPE community to participate: http://is-nri.com/take/?i=150597&h=1GwWe3dXXMcPrRrOw5s2yg The purpose of the survey is to better understand where the community is moving, and what can be done to ensure the Internet community is ready for the widespread adoption of IPv6. The survey was developed in consultation with members of the RIPE community, and is inspired by the 2008 survey conducted by ARIN and CAIDA in North America. It is sponsored by the European Commission, which has actively supported the adoption of IPv6, in the interests of innovation and the continuing competitiveness of European industry. We encourage all organisations in the RIPE NCC service region to participate in this survey, which we hope will establish a comprehensive view of present IPv6 penetration and future plans for IPv6 deployment. By making the survey design similar to the ARIN/CAIDA survey, we hope that the results will contribute to a better global picture of current and future IPv6 deployment. The survey is composed of 16 questions and can be completed in 10-15 minutes. For those without IPv6 allocations or assignments, or who have not yet deployed IPv6, the questions will be fewer in number. The survey will close on 3 July 2009. Changing IP addresses of whois.ripe.net

Dear Colleagues, On Wednesday, 17 June 2009 at 13:00 (UTC), the RIPE NCC will change both the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of whois.ripe.net to point to the new whois query cluster. If you have the old IP addresses hardwired, you will be able to continue to use them for one more month. After this, the old whois query cluster will be disabled, and RIPE Database queries and near real-time mirroring (NRTM) will only be available through the new whois query cluster. In order to avoid having to make changes in the future, you should always use the DNS name whois.ripe.net to access the RIPE Database. If you have any questions, please email <ripe-dbm(a)ripe.net>. New emergency RIPE NCC PGP Key

2007-01 Phase 2 Implementation: Direct Internet Resource Assignments to End Users from the RIPE NCC

[Apologies for duplicates] Dear colleagues, We are pleased to announce that the RIPE NCC has implemented the second phase of "Direct Internet Resource Assignments to End Users from the RIPE NCC". In this phase the RIPE NCC will contact all LIRs to request information regarding existing direct resources requested through that LIR. This will be done via the LIR Portal. All LIR Portal users will receive a notification email on 28 May 2009 detailing the process. Details of the implementation are available at: http://www.ripe.net/rs/pi-existing-assignments.html Timelines: Before September 2009: LIRs need to indicate which resources should stay with that LIR. This will affect the charging scheme for 2010. Before 31 December 2009: LIRs must upload contracts and registration papers for all resources still associated with that LIR. rev-srv: Attribute Deprecation: Stage 2 completed

[Apologies for duplicate emails] Dear Colleagues, The RIPE NCC has begun implementing the deprecation of the "rev-srv:" attribute. This was discussed on the DNS WG mailing list and at the RIPE 54 Meeting in Tallinn, Estonia, during the Database Working Group session. More details are available at: http://www.ripe.net/ripe/maillists/archives/dns-wg/2007/msg00090.html The plan suggested on the mailing list is being used and there are three stages: - Stage 1: Announcement - Stage 2: Syntax change - Stage 3: Clean-up The announcement was made to the Database Working Group mailing list on 27 April 2009. *Stage 2 has now been completed.* The RIPE NCC has removed the "rev-srv:" attribute from the RIPE RPSL syntax for INET(6)NUM objects. Any new objects created must not have this attribute included. If any objects that include this attribute are modified, then the "rev-srv:" attributes must be removed. If you wish to keep the information for documentation purposes, change the"rev-srv:" attributes into "remarks:" attributes. The "rev-srv:" attribute has also been removed from the list of inverse query options. Stage 3 is planned to be completed before RIPE 59.
