ASN request and org object

I recently requested a new ASN and was asked to submit an org object for the new ASN. When I looked at the v1.1 of the ASN request form at: http://www.ripe.net/ripe/docs/asnrequestform.html it lists the org object as optional and not mandatory. So I asked why it was requested? The response I got was: >The "org" line is optional in the RIPE DB; this is new attribute which was >introduced short time ago and it's absent in most objects. > >However we think it is important to know which company an ASN is assigned to >and this is why we are asking to create this object for every new >registration. Notification of Virus E-mail

Dear Subscribers, At approximately 20.15 GMT on 28 September 2004, an e-mail containing a virus was posted to the ncc-services-wg mailing list. The message with the subject "Re: Hi" was sent to the list with forged headers, including a valid subscriber's e-mail address (Adrian(a)ripe.net), and therefore accepted and distributed by the mail list software. We urge you not to open the attachment ("price.scr"). The posting will be removed from the mail list archives. We are currently analysing the incident in order to prevent this from happening again We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. Further, the RIPE NCC only communicates in English with its members. Joint Evaluation of Requests by The RIPE NCC and AfriNIC

[Apologies for duplicate postings] Dear Colleagues, The RIPE NCC has been working very closely with AfriNIC (The African Network Information Center) to prepare for their emergence as a new Regional Internet Registry. As part of this transition process, the RIPE NCC and AfriNIC will conduct joint review of all IP and AS Number requests coming from the emerging AfriNIC region. Effective September 1, 2004, the RIPE NCC will be forwarding all requests for IP address space and Autonomous System Numbers to AfriNIC, if the request is within the defined region proposed for AfriNIC. These requests will be co-evaluated by the RIPE NCC and AfriNIC. RIPE-301 (specifically about closed registries) 3.8: "In cases where End Users of an LIR keep the address space assigned to them after the LIR closes, the LIR maintainer in the database objects representing these assignments needs to be removed and replaced by the RIPE NCC maintainer. The LIR should provide the RIPE NCC with a list of relevant database objects agreeing to the RIPE NCC overwriting the current LIR maintainer." OK, I missed this as "my" LIR was closed due to non-payment after my previous "issues". That not-withstanding, the actualy allocations to end-users remain, and should be maintainable, even if very slowly, somehow. RIPE-301 does not (in 4.0) imply that end-user assignments (and ASes) are automatically removed where an LIR is closed by RIPE - in fact it implies the opposite, but doesn't say it explicity. If we get to the situation where the object would have been correctly and timely changed to the NCC maintainer, it appears that the current robot behaviour would still be the same; This page implies that it is *impossible* to communicate with RIPE unless you are an LIR: http://www.ripe.net/ripencc/mem-services/registration/status.html There is a chasm here between RIPE-301 and hostmaster(a)ripe.net etc. Is there a (poublic) solution ? rgds, -- Peter

Hi All, For the NCC Services WG at RIPE49 we'd like to see more participation from the members, as well as the general presentation provided by the RIPE NCC. So with that in mind we'd like to ask for you, the members and RIPE Community to come forward and suggest a presentation outlining your experience with the RIPE NCC and its services. This can include anything from experiences you have had with a recent merger or idea's/issues you've had with the LIR Portal that you would like to share. As this Working Group has been set-up explicitly for the RIPE NCC members and the RIPE Community to discuss the services of the RIPE NCC, your active participation is appreciated. Without active involvement of the membership and the RIPE Community it is difficult for the RIPE NCC to gauge our expectations with regards to the services it provides.
