Reduced Service on RIPE NCC Website and RIPE Labs

2007-01 RIPE NCC Maintainer Update

[Apologies for duplicate emails] Dear colleagues, At the RIPE 62 Meeting, in both the RIPE NCC Services and Database Working Groups, there was an update on the progress of RIPE Policy Proposal 2007-01, "Contractual Requirements for Provider Independent Resource Holders in the RIPE NCC Service Region". The presentations can be viewed on the RIPE NCC website at: http://ripe62.ripe.net/presentations/117-RIPE_62_Arne_Kiessling.pptx http://ripe62.ripe.net/presentations/143-DB_Update-62-final.pptx Part of the process requires the RIPE NCC to monitor changes to independent Internet number resources assigned by the RIPE NCC. The objects included in this are PI assignment INETNUM/INET6NUM and Autonomous System Number AUT-NUM objects. This is done by adding a reference to an additional maintainer to all these objects. This will not affect your authorisation or control of this data in the RIPE Database. For a number of years, the RIPE NCC has been using the MNTNER object RIPE-NCC-HM-PI-MNT for this monitoring. A new MNTNER is now being used, RIPE-NCC-END-MNT. The new MNTNER will replace the old one, or be added, where necessary. This change will be performed on all appropriate data in the RIPE Database by the RIPE NCC Database Group today, 28 June 2011. Because the update will involve more than 20,000 objects, no individual notifications will be sent. After this change takes place, please do not remove this new maintainer reference. It is required by the policy referenced above. This change is administrative and has no operational impact on users. New Webupdates Tool Launched for RIPE Database

Hello, I've been lately looking at ripeness.ripe.net data, with special focus on my country's numbers. :-) The recent World IPv6 Day was imho a good thing, some people took some more steps towards having some IPv6 in their networks, and that allowed us to increase the # of IPv6 peerings over the local (and small) IXP from 12 to 15. :-))) Getting an IPv6 block, register the route6 object, the DNS reverse object (domain) and make the block visible will not «automagically» generate more IPv6 packets on the Internet, but i find these steps to be key for future IPv6 deployments. This is basically why i think this should be monitored and promoted, so we know which people (i.e. LIRs) we still need to talk to (and in some cases, offer our help). So i would like to support the idea of making ripeness.ripe.net a production service, maybe linked with IPv6 Act Now (www.ipv6actnow.org). Best Regards, Carlos

[Apologies for duplicate emails.] Dear Colleagues Filtering object types returned by a query is a common use case, but the documentation is not clear on how to do this. In advance of updating documentation (and maybe changing the code), perhaps I can explain the confusion and how to work around it. The '-T' flag limits database searches of 'operational' object types to the ones listed in the flag argument. So, for example, -T INETNUM will not return ROUTE objects. AFTER the database searches for operational data, it then searches for some secondary object references, including PERSON, ROLE and IRT objects. So the above query will return these. If you want to limit a query to ONLY return the operational object type(s) listed in the argument of a '-T' flag you need this query: -r -C -T<type list> <query string> The '-r' flag prevents any PERSON and ROLE objects returned The '-C' flag prevents IRT objects returned the '-T' flag limits operational object types to those specified in the comma separated list The amount of data returned for each object can be further filtered/expanded by other query flags. Outage report for RIPE Database daily split files

[Apologies for duplicate emails] Dear Colleagues, Between Tuesday, 10 May, and Thursday, 12 May, we experienced an issue with the daily object split files on the RIPE FTP site. The data was not updated during this period and showed a stale copy of the data from Monday, 9 May. This issue has been fixed and we have improved our monitoring of the service to report when the data is not refreshed. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.
