[news] RIPE NCC Member Update: November 2021
Hello RIPE NCC members, This is a special edition of the Member Update for RIPE 83, taking place next week from 22-26 November. Alongside the RIPE Meeting, we will also have our RIPE NCC General Meeting on Wednesday, 24 November from 16:30-18:30 (UTC+1). We hope that you’ll join us for these meetings, and registration for both is quick, free and easy: RIPE 83: https://ripe83.ripe.net RIPE NCC General Meeting: https://www.ripe.net/participate/meetings/gm/meetings/nov-2021 RIPE 83 will feature Plenary sessions on topics including Internet governance culture, building a sustainable digital economy, BGP Route Flap Dampening configurations, operating an IP Exchange Provider, DNS openness and much more. We’ll also have Working Group sessions throughout the week where you can discuss current topics and participate in chair elections. And RIPE 83 will have social sessions and coffee breaks that are the perfect opportunity to network with fellow engineers, operators and Internet stakeholders. You’ll even have the chance to meet the RIPE Chair Team and the RIPE NCC Executive Board. Don’t miss out! See the full meeting plan at: https://ripe83.ripe.net/programme/meeting-plan/ In our RIPE NCC General Meeting on Wednesday, you’ll be able to share your feedback about our services and plans for the future. You can also vote on how/if we redistribute our surplus from 2021, and there will be a discussion on the future of our charging scheme model. Our Managing Director, Hans Petter Holen, will also present our Draft Activity Plan and Budget 2022 and our Draft RIPE NCC Strategy 2022-2026. More information on these important documents and how to give your input on them are provided below in Section 4. So with all that said, here’s everything else you need to know about our services and what’s happening in the RIPE community this month: 1. Registry -- LIR Stats -- IPv4 Runout and Waiting List -- Quarterly Roadmaps -- Address Policy Working Group Session 2. Information Services -- MAT Working Group Session -- RIS Jam -- RIPEstat UI -- Cloud Strategy Framework -- Service Criticality -- RIPE Atlas Sponsorship 3. Community and Engagement -- RIPE NCC Certified Professionals Graduation Party -- Training Courses in December -- RIPE NCC Open House: Building Your Own Test Labs -- Mediterranean Europe Country Report Translations -- RIPE Chair Team Reports: October 2021 -- New RIPE Code of Conduct -- RIPE Labs 4. Organisational Update -- Draft Activity Plan and Budget 2022 -- Draft RIPE NCC Strategy 2022-2026 -- Holiday Hours 1. Registry -- LIR Stats Number of LIRs: 23,785 (+83) Number of members: 20,296 (+8) LIRs with IPv6: 16,563 (+113) IPv4 addresses transferred in October: 1,199,680 (+353,088) -- IPv4 Runout and Waiting List Since November 2019, we’ve provided /24 IPv4 allocations via a waiting list system, according to RIPE Policy. These /24s are only available for LIRs that haven't received an IPv4 allocation from us before. Over the last year and a half, we had more recycled IPv4 address space available than was demanded. This meant that all requests could be processed immediately. Over the past six months, we’ve seen increased demand for allocations from new LIRs, and as of this week, we have no available IPv4 address space remaining. Requesters will now have to wait until space becomes available again in the future. See the waiting list at: https://www.ripe.net/manage-ips-and-asns/ipv4/ipv4-waiting-list --Quarterly Roadmaps We are now publishing quarterly roadmaps for our development teams that let you know what we’ll be working on in the coming months. We also collect input from members there that we can plug into future quarterly plans. At the moment, we have published plans for RPKI, the RIPE Database and our business applications. Check them out and give your input in the relevant Working Group, on <members-discuss@ripe.net> or at the RIPE Meeting next week when our staff will give updates on our progress: https://www.ripe.net/support/documentation/quarterly-planning/ -- Address Policy Working Group Session The Address Policy Working Group session will take place during RIPE 83 on Tuesday, 23 November.
