RIPE NCC GENERAL MEETING (GM) OUTCOMES The GM took place from 24-26 October and RIPE NCC members voted to approve three resolutions, including the redistribution of the 2017 surplus to members as a rebate in 2018. Over 1,000 members cast their votes, and we thank them for their participation. Full details on the GM results, including the voting report, are available from: https://www.ripe.net/participate/meetings/gm/meetings/october-2017 IoT WORKING GROUP At RIPE 75, the RIPE community reached consensus on the creation of a new working group focused on the Internet of Things (IoT). You can find video archives and slides from the IoT Session at RIPE 75 at: https://ripe75.ripe.net/programme/meeting-plan/iot/ You can find more information on the new working group at: https://www.ripe.net/participate/mail/ripe-mailing-lists/iot-wg Note: subscribers to the earlier <iot-discussion@ripe.net> mailing list have been automatically moved to the new <iot-wg@ripe.net> mailing list. CONTACTING THE RIPE NCC The RIPE NCC has a new and improved contact form that you can use to get in touch with us. The new contact form combines the old contact and report form functionalities. The new form also presents suggested content to users that can help to provide them with useful information. Submissions made through the form will be ticketised and all documentation will be stored separately and securely in the RIPE NCC's Document Management System. The form is available at: https://www.ripe.net/contact-form RIPE DATABASE ABUSE CONTACTS (NWI-7) Your ORGANISATION object has an “abuse-c:” attribute that references a ROLE object with your abuse contact email in its “abuse-mailbox:” attribute. By default this contact is applicable to all of your resource objects (INET(6)NUM and AUT-NUM). However, you can now have an optional “abuse-c:” attribute on these object types if you wish to override this default. This attribute then needs to reference another ROLE object with a different abuse contact email in its “abuse-mailbox:” attribute. PURCHASE ORDER NUMBER ON 2018 INVOICE? Add your purchase order number to the invoice reference field before the end of the year via: https://my.ripe.net/#/billing You can find out more about the charges for 2018 at: https://www.ripe.net/participate/member-support/payment DMARC AND THE RIPE NCC Find out what the RIPE NCC is doing to provide the best solution for users and the RIPE community in relation to the DMARC email standard: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/adam_castle/dmarc-and-the-ripe-ncc RIPEstat COUNTRY REPORTS Get insights into the status and development of the Internet in countries or regions with this prototype tool. In this first beta release, the RIPEstat Country Reports features the topics "IPv4", "IPv6" and "LIRs", with more topics, datasets and ideas to be added soon. https://stat.ripe.net/country-report Watch Christian's presentation on the official release at RIPE75: https://ripe75.ripe.net/archives/video/142 And help to steer further development by providing feedback via: https://stat.ripe.net/feedback IXP COUNTRY JEDI The IXP Country Jedi is a prototype tool that provides visualisations of Internet traffic paths (traceroutes) between RIPE Atlas probes located in the same country to see if target paths take out-of-country detours and whether we see IXPs in the paths. Check it out at: https://www.ripe.net/ixp-country-jedi GEOLOCATION TOOLS A new range of geolocation tools developed by the RIPE NCC were presented in the MAT WG session at RIPE 75. These include a set of geolocation APIs that provide a best estimate of the location of a target IP, and the OpenIPMap UI, which enables users to visualise traceroutes on a map. See the presentation at: https://ripe75.ripe.net/archives/video/121/ RIPE ATLAS PROBES AS IoT DEVICES Robert Kisteleki from the RIPE NCC looks at RIPE Atlas probes from the perspective of IoT: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/kistel/ripe-atlas-probes-as-iot-devices RIPE ATLAS MEASUREMENT TIMESTAMPS New timestamps have been introduced for RIPE Atlas measurements. Whereas before, users could see the time at which a measurement took place, they can now also see the time at which those measurements were received in the RIPE Atlas data repository. This allows users of historical data to exclude measurement results that arrived late. NEW VENDOR FOR RIPE ATLAS v3 ANCHORS Meconet, the latest addition to our list of vendors for RIPE Atlas v3 anchors, is offering the new anchor hardware fully assembled with 3 years' warranty. No other vendor is currently able to offer the devices fully assembled. The RIPE Atlas anchor from Meconet comes in a 19” chassis with integrated power supply. https://shop.meconet.de/a/117330?language=en THE FUTURE OF DNSSEC AT THE RIPE NCC Anand Buddhdev from the RIPE NCC talks about how the RIPE NCC is exploring ways of improving its DNSSEC activities: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/anandb/the-future-of-dnssec-at-the-ripe-ncc ANYCASTING AS197000 MORE WIDELY Anand also presents an experiment that investigates whether it's possible to increase the capacity and resiliency of the RIPE NCC's authoritative DNS service (AS197000): https://labs.ripe.net/Members/anandb/anycasting-as-197000-more-widely UPCOMING TRAINING COURSES Up to the end of 2017, there will be RIPE NCC Training Courses in Dusseldorf, Krasnodar, Palermo, Lyon and Athens.
