Update 4: Reverse DNS Services Outage

Dear colleagues, We'd like to update you on the reverse DNS outage situation: As of 13:00 UTC on Thursday, 14 June 2012 the zones listed in the previous update have been restored to the state of 13:30 UTC, Wednesday, 13 June 2012. So all zones we maintain are now available and zones in the list are no longer special. There may be a very few ERX zones maintained by other RIRs that are still not fully restored. The update has been posted online at: https://www.ripe.net/lir-services/service-announcements/reverse-dns-service… <http://www.ripe.net/lir-services/service-announcements> All updates since 13:30 UTC yesterday are still pending and are not reflected in the zones. However, no updates were lost. Any updates you will submit or you have already submitted will eventually be reflected in the zones once we complete our restoration procedure. ============= Next actions ============= We will now create up-to-date zones that include all the updates since yesterday 13:30 UTC. We will also recreate all ERX zones with current data. We expect to complete this by this evening. Once that is complete, we will re-enable regular provisioning and everything will be back to normal. If you experience any abnormal responses beyond the residual inconsistencies described here, please let us know atdns-help(a)ripe.net with as much detail as possible. Update 14 June (11:22 UTC): Reverse DNS Services Outage

Dear colleagues, We'd like to update you on the reverse DNS service outage situation. As of 10:45 UTC on Thursday, 14 June 2012, all reverse DNS zones we publish and that are not on the list below are correct and reflect the state of 13:30 UTC yesterday, 13 June. If you continue to see problems after this time, please contactdns-help(a)ripe.net with details of what responses you are getting. Please consider (negative) caching TTLs and restart your caching servers if possible. We've posted this update online at: https://www.ripe.net/internet-coordination/news/announcements/update-14-jun… =============== Outage Details =============== We know that some zones not mentioned in the list of the previous update (20:45 UTC, 13 June) were not correctly propagated to some authoritative servers after the roll-back last night. We do not know the extent of this at the present time. However we are sure that as of 10:45 UTC today all authoritative servers answer correctly with the state of 13:30 UTC 13 June for all zones but the few on the list in the previous update. We are working hard to restore the zones listed. We are busy adding all the updates since 13:30 UTC 13 June to all zones. We will report on how this work is progressing. World IPv6 Launch: RIPE NCC Activities

[Apologies for duplicate emails] Dear Colleagues, World IPv6 Launch takes place today, 6 June 2012, marking a key milestone in the development of the Internet. Major Internet service providers (ISPs), manufacturers and content providers around the world are coming together to permanently enable IPv6 for their products and services. RIPE NCC is heavily involved in both the local and global events surrounding the Launch. Measurements ------------- We will monitor and analyse many of the participating websites from a number of vantage points before, during and after the Launch: http://v6launch.ripe.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi Local Event ----------- We've joined forces with several Dutch organisations to organise the World IPv6 Launch NL event at Science Park Amsterdam. The local technical community and future Internet leaders are attending the RIPE NCC's IPv6 tutorial, various IPv6-related presentations, hands-on workshops and plenary sessions. 2012 Global IPv6 Deployment Monitoring Survey - Open Now Until 30 June

[Apologies for duplicate emails] Dear colleagues, The Number Resource Organization (NRO), on behalf of all the Regional Internet Registries, invites you to participate in the 3rd consecutive Global IPv6 Deployment Monitoring Survey on the current and future use of IPv6. The purpose of the survey is to better understand where the community is moving, and what can be done to ensure that the Internet community is ready and moving toward widespread adoption of IPv6. As it is mostly the same as the survey carried out globally in 2010 and 2011, comparison of progress will be possible. The IPv6 Deployment Monitoring Survey is now online, and we encourage all members of our community to participate: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/GlobalIPv6survey2012 The survey will be open for a month and will close on 30 June 2012. We anticipate a good response rate as 94% of last year's over 1600 respondents from around the globe indicated that they were interested in participating again. We encourage all organisations to participate in order for the results to establish a comprehensive view of present IPv6 penetration and future plans for IPv6 deployment. The survey is composed of 23 questions and can be completed in about 15 minutes. For those without IPv6 allocations or assignments, or who have not yet deployed IPv6, the questions will be fewer in number. Results of this year's survey will be presented and discussed widely. New Online Payment Options

RIPE NCC Returns Legacy Address Space to IANA

Dear colleagues, On 6 May 2012, the ICANN Board ratified GPP-IPv4-2011, "Global Policy for Post Exhaustion IPv4 Allocation Mechanisms" by IANA. This global policy enables IANA to redistribute any recovered IPv4 address space equally amongst the RIRs. Following the ratification of this global policy, on 22 May 2012 the RIPE NCC returned to IANA the 1,368,576 legacy IPv4 addresses that have been returned to the RIPE NCC and plans to return any other legacy IPv4 address space that is returned to the organisation in the future. Scheduled Maintenance on RIPE Database Update Server - 10 May, at 14:00 UTC

[Apologies for duplicate emails] Dear colleagues, On Thursday, 10 May at 14:00 UTC (16:00 CEST), we will migrate the update service to a new server as part of our RIPE Database infrastructure upgrade. We expect the migration to take up to four hours. Part of this migration requires us to reload both the live and test database contents onto the new server. ----------------------------------- No changes during migration window ----------------------------------- No changes can be made to the RIPE Database or TEST Database during the migration. This includes the use of Syncupdates, Webupdates, RESTful API and the use of object editors provided through the LIR Portal. ----------------------------------- Hold off on sending email updates ----------------------------------- We also kindly request that you hold off on sending updates to the email update service (<auto-dbm(a)ripe.net>, <test-dbm(a)ripe.net>) during the migration window to allow us to make a clean restart of the new server and perform significant testing before processing any live updates. If any updates are sent to the email update service, they will be queued and run following the migration. If you do submit email updates during this time we recommend that you check the results later. ---------------------------------- RIPE Database queries unaffected ---------------------------------- Querying the RIPE Database will not be affected as this service is completely separated from the update service. However it will not be possible to query the TEST Database. We appreciate your cooperation and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
