We would like to inform you of the RIPE NCC Responsible Disclosure Policy, which was published on ripe.net in July: https://www.ripe.net/contact/responsible-disclosure-policy If you believe you have discovered a security vulnerability in the RIPE NCC’s network, we will be happy to work with you to resolve the issue. You are welcome to send your findings anonymously and use our public PGP key to encrypt the information you send us. Where major security issues are discovered and resolved, we will publish a report on ripe.net explaining the vulnerability discovered and the measure(s) taken to fix it. [news] RIPE NCC Receives Allocation from IANA's Recovered IPv4 Pool

Dear colleagues, Yesterday, on 2 September 2014, the RIPE NCC and other Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) were each allocated a /12 of IPv4 address space from the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). The RIPE NCC was allocated the IPv4 address range 45.80.0.0/12 and we are currently adding this to our available pool. Following the exhaustion of IANA's free pool of IPv4 addresses in 2011, when the RIRs received their final /8s, a global policy caused IANA to create a recovered pool of leftover and returned IPv4 address blocks. This policy was ratified by all five RIR communities in 2012 and stated that IANA would begin making equal, periodic allocations from the recovered pool when the first RIR reached a /9 of remaining addresses. This point was reached by LACNIC, the RIR for Latin America and the Caribbean on 20 May 2014, triggering the global policy and the first post-exhaustion allocation from IANA. You can read the global policy here: http://www.icann.org/en/resources/policy/global-addressing/allocation-ipv4-… With the current policy in place, the RIPE NCC will receive one-fifth of any recovered addresses in the pool every six months (every March and September). The RIPE NCC will continue to distribute these according to the current last /8 policy, under which Local Internet Registries may receive a one-time /22 allocation (1,024 addresses). It is important that network operators continue to deploy IPv6 on their networks to ensure the future growth of the Internet. Dear colleagues, The ninth annual Internet Governance Forum (IGF) is currently taking place in Istanbul and will run from 2 - 5 September 2014. At this meeting, thousands of participants from governments, the private sector, the technical community, civil society and international organisations from around the world have gathered to discuss a range of issues relating to the Internet. As part of this, we would like to highlight that on 5 September, from 9:30 - 11:00 (UTC+3), there will be a session entitled: “IANA Functions: NTIA’s Stewardship Transition and ICANN’s Accountability Process.” This session is a part of the ongoing process to develop a plan for transitioning the NTIA’s oversight function to the global Internet community. As key stakeholders, it is important that the RIPE community is informed of these discussions and has its voice heard. Dear colleagues, We are happy to announce a new RIPE NCC training course that will take place on the Sunday before the RIPE 69 Meeting in London this November. This new course will focus on how to obtain, transfer, manage and protect your IP address space. The course is free of charge and is open to anyone interested. The course will cover the most frequently asked questions the RIPE NCC receives about IP address space. Course title: RIPE NCC Presents: IP Address Space Basics How to obtain, transfer, manage and protect your IP addresses Goals: By the end of this course, you will be able to: - Manage your IPv4 and IPv6 addresses according to current RIPE Policies - Understand how to obtain IPv4 addresses through transfers - Protect your address space from hijacking Target audience: Anyone interested in the policies and procedures around address space in the RIPE NCC service region, and companies looking at address space transfers, mergers and acquisitions. [news] RIPE NCC Re-Affirms Commitment to Operate K Root Name Server

Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC has been providing DNS root name service via k.root-servers.net since 1997. As the global Internet community considers changes to the NTIA oversight of key DNS functions, the RIPE NCC wishes to assure the Internet community that our commitment to providing this service and to coordinating appropriately with ICANN and the other root server operators will not be affected by the outcome of these discussions. The RIPE NCC is a not-for-profit membership association under Dutch law. It is governed by its General Meeting and Executive Board, and is guided by the RIPE community. Root name servers are a crucial part of the Internet DNS infrastructure and the RIPE NCC’s role in this area is supported by the membership for the benefit of the global Internet community. In an open letter to ICANN in 2009, the RIPE NCC affirmed our mutual commitment to coordination of DNS root name service operations, acknowledging that a single, unique DNS root is paramount to the stable operations of the Internet and to ensuring global reachability: https://ripe.net/s/kr2h We remain committed to the principles expressed in this letter, and will continue working to operationalise them, independent of changes to the IANA stewardship. The full policy proposal can be found at: http://www.ripe.net/ripe/policies/proposals/2014-01 The new RIPE Document, ripe-622, "IPv4 Address Allocation and Assignment Policy", is available at: https://www.ripe.net/ripe/docs/ripe-622/ Please note that we republished the RIPE Document, "IPv4 Address Allocation and Assignment Policy", because it was originally published with a small error. The new, correct document is ripe-622, which deprecates ripe-621. [news] NRO NC Call for Nominations: RIPE NCC Service Region

Dear colleagues, There is a call for nominations from the RIPE NCC service region to fill one vacant seat on the Number Resource Organization (NRO) Number Council (NC). The NRO NC also performs the role of the ICANN Address Supporting Organization (ASO) Address Council (AC). The term of Wilfried Woeber, who was appointed to the NRO NC by the RIPE NCC Executive Board in November 2011, ends on 31 December 2014. The RIPE NCC Executive Board will select one representative from the nominees to serve a three-year term on the NRO NC beginning 1 January 2015. The decision of the Executive Board will be announced at the RIPE 69 Meeting, which will be held in London from 3-7 November 2014. The deadline for nominations is 8 October 2014. Any individual residing within the RIPE NCC service region is eligible for nomination, except Regional Internet Registry (RIR) staff members. Self-nominations are permitted. There is no limit on the amount of terms someone can serve on the NRO NC. All nominees may submit a written statement in support of their nomination for publication on the RIPE NCC website. Other individuals may express support for nominated individuals that will be published on the RIPE NCC website.
