[news] RIPE NCC Receives /18 from IANA's Recovered Pool

Dear colleagues, On 1 September 2016, the RIPE NCC and other Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) were each allocated the equivalent of a /18 of IPv4 address space from the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). The RIPE NCC received the following IPv4 address ranges: 160.20.96.0/21, 160.20.144.0/20, 160.202.16.0/20, 160.238.112.0/20 and 162.12.200.0/21. This returned address space will be added to the RIPE NCC’s free pool and distributed according to the current IPv4 policy. LIRs that have already received their final /22 are NOT eligible to receive any further allocations from the RIPE NCC. You can find the IPv4 policy here: https://www.ripe.net/publications/docs/ripe-649 Following the exhaustion of IANA's free pool of IPv4 addresses in 2011, when the RIRs received their final /8s, a global policy caused IANA to create a recovered pool of leftover and returned IPv4 address blocks. This policy was ratified by all five RIR communities in 2012 and stated that IANA would begin making equal, periodic allocations from the recovered pool when the first RIR reached a /9 of remaining addresses. This point was reached by LACNIC, the RIR for Latin America and the Caribbean on 20 May 2014, triggering the global policy and the first post-exhaustion allocation from IANA. [GM] RIPE NCC General Meeting October 2016: Registration Open

Dear colleagues, On behalf of our Executive Board, I invite you to register for the RIPE NCC General Meeting (GM) October 2016. The GM will take place from 26-28 October 2016 in the Meliá Castilla Hotel in Madrid, Spain, adjacent to the RIPE 73 Meeting. You can register now via the LIR Portal: https://www.ripe.net/s/gm-registration-oct-2016 The GM is where RIPE NCC members can discuss the operations and activities of the RIPE NCC. At the upcoming GM, RIPE NCC members will discuss, among other topics: - The Draft RIPE NCC Activity Plan and Budget 2017 - Redistribution of the RIPE NCC surplus/deficit to the membership (to be voted on) - Amendments to the RIPE NCC Conflict Arbitration Procedure (to be voted on) - Reports from the RIPE NCC Executive Board and RIPE NCC Management Members are encouraged to attend either in person at the Meliá Castilla Hotel or remotely via the GM webstream. All relevant documents will be posted and announced to the membership by 28 September 2016. This email is sent on behalf of the Number Resource Organization (NRO) NRO Statement on IANA Intellectual Property Rights The NRO has reviewed the IANA Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Assignment Agreement, the IANA IPR License Agreement and the IANA IPR Community Agreement, as published for comment at: https://www.ianacg.org/call-for-public-comment-on-iana-ipr-agreements And finds that these IPR agreements meet the requirements of the numbers community, as expressed in the CRISP Proposal at: https://www.nro.net/news/final-proposal-crisp The NRO notes that these agreements are presently posted for public comments through September 12, 2016 at 23:59 UTC. After that time, and presuming a favorable review of the comments received, the NRO intends to enter into these agreements in order to facilitate the IANA Stewardship transition. Dear colleagues, There is a call for nominations from the RIPE NCC service region to fill one vacant seat on the Number Resource Organization (NRO) Number Council (NC). The three-year term of Filiz Yilmaz ends on 31 December 2016. The election to the NRO NC seat will take place during the Plenary at the RIPE 73 Meeting to be held in Madrid from 24-28 October 2016. The voting for this election will be conducted electronically for the first time. Dear colleagues, We have updated the RIPE NCC Billing Procedure 2016: https://www.ripe.net/participate/member-support/info/billing/billing-proced… The Billing Procedure was updated to clarify the distinction between a RIPE NCC member and an LIR account. In particular, it clarifies that non-payment of the RIPE NCC membership fee leads to the termination of the RIPE NCC Standard Service Agreement for the member and consequently to the closure of all LIR accounts that member holds. Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC Executive Board held its 107th meeting on 7 July 2016. The draft minutes of this meeting are now available: https://www.ripe.net/about-us/executive-board/minutes/2016/minutes-107th-ex… The Executive Board publishes the minutes of its meetings so that the workings of the Board and the decisions it makes are transparent for the membership that it represents. The following is a summary of the main items from the meeting. Further details are available in the minutes: - The Board discussed the focus points for RIPE NCC strategy in 2017. - The Board discussed the changing Internet governance landscape and stated that external relations and outreach needed to be well-resourced and focused on the challenges ahead. - The Board reported that there would be changes to the arbitration procedures and that these changes would need to be approved by the members. - The Board approved funding for the "Good of the Internet" project, which would include the SEED Alliance, the Rob Blokzijl Foundation and specific projects selected for funding. - The Executive Board agreed to support the sustainability of the IETF - The Board approved the updated corporate documents RIPE NCC LIR Account Agreement, the Transfer Procedure, and Due Diligence and Contractual Relationship Changes between End User and Sponsoring LIR. - The Board approved the new corporate document Secondary DNS Terms & Conditions with the addition of section 4.3 to allow an override and editorial changes that were provided by the Board.
