RIRs voluntarily restrict IPv4 IANA requests to two /8s

[Apologies for duplicate e-mails.] Dear Colleagues, The Number Resource Organization (NRO) has announced today that the Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) have reached an agreement to voluntarily limit the size of IPv4 allocations they request from the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). In future, requests submitted to the IANA under the current global policy for IPv4 allocations from IANA to RIRs will be voluntarily limited to a maximum of two /8 blocks per request. The current global policy can be found at: http://www.aso.icann.org/docs/aso-001-2.pdf This adjustment to the RIRs' standard practice will facilitate the tracking of the IANA's IPv4 consumption rate and allow more active management of the remaining IPv4 address pool. The change will not affect the overall rate of IPv4 consumption as measured by allocations from the RIRs to network infrastructure operators. It will also not affect any of the RIPE NCC's regional policies currently in place. About the NRO -------------------- Formed by the RIRs to formalise their co-operative efforts, the NRO exists to protect the unallocated number resource pool, to promote and protect the bottom-up policy development process, and to act as a focal point for Internet community input into the RIR system. [Apologies for duplicate e-mails] Dear RIPE NCC member, In compliance with the RIPE NCC Articles of Association, the RIPE NCC is calling for nominations to the RIPE NCC Executive Board. The two vacant seats are for three-year terms and are to fill the places currently held by Janos Zsako and Nigel Titley, whose terms expire in May 2007. Voting for the appointment of the RIPE NCC Executive Board members will take place at the upcoming RIPE NCC General Meeting (GM). The GM will be held on Wednesday, 9 May 2007 at the Sokos Hotel Viru in Tallinn, Estonia. Please submit your nominations prior to Wednesday, 18 April 2007, following the guidelines outlined in article [7] of the RIPE NCC Articles of Association. They shall be member of the board in a personal capacity and do not have to be members of the association. Employees of the association cannot be appointed member of the executive board. Article [7.2] The members of the executive board shall be appointed by the general meeting from a list of nominees to be drawn up by the members. A nomination for the appointment of a member of the executive board shall need the written support of at least five members. If three weeks before the general meeting the number of candidates does not exceed the number of vacancies, the executive board shall have to nominate one or more candidates so that the total number of proposed candidates shall exceed the number of members of the executive board to be appointed by the general meeting. Article [8.3] The membership in the executive board shall become effective at the end of the general meeting at which the member is appointed and shall automatically terminate at the end of the annual meeting in the third calendar year after the year in which the member was appointed. RIPE Database CRYPT-PW Deprecation Project

[Apologies for duplicate e-mails] Dear colleagues, As agreed at the RIPE 53 Database Working Group session, the use of CRYPT-PW authentication method for MAINTAINER object passwords is no longer available and has been removed from the RIPE Database. In addition all CRYPT-PW auth: lines have been removed from existing MAINTAINER objects. All users affected by this change have been notified by separate e-mail sent to each MAINTAINER object contact e-mail address. If your MAINTAINER object used the CRYPT-PW authentication only, it has been locked by replacing the passwords with a randomly generated MD5-PW password. If your maintainer object used an authentication method other than CRYPT-PW, only the CRYPT-PW auth: lines have been removed. It is still possible to query all of your objects. We have provided a web form for you to enter your MAINTAINER name and the old CRYPT-PW cleartext password. This will unlock your MAINTAINER object by replacing the randomly generated password with an MD5-PW encrypted version of your original cleartext password. If your MAINTAINER object previously used CRYPT-PW with other forms of authentication, you can still use this script to add a new MD5-PW to replace the deleted CRYPT-PW. In either case, you will continue to have access to your MAINTAINER object with the same cleartext password.
