[news] RIPE NCC Receives /21 from IANA’s Recovered Pool

Dear colleagues, On 1 March 2018, the RIPE NCC and other Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) were each allocated the equivalent of a /21 of IPv4 address space from the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). The RIPE NCC received the following IPv4 address ranges: 160.238.21.0/24 192.42.65.0/24 192.83.216.0/24 192.135.100.0/24 192.140.2.0/23 192.172.232.0/24 192.251.230.0/24 This returned address space will be added to the RIPE NCC’s free pooland distributed according to the current IPv4 policy. LIRs that have already received their final /22 are NOT eligible to receive any further allocations from the RIPE NCC. You can find the IPv4 policy here: https://www.ripe.net/publications/docs/ripe-680 Following the exhaustion of IANA's free pool of IPv4 addresses in 2011, when the RIRs received their final /8s, a global policy caused IANA to create a recovered pool of leftover and returned IPv4 address blocks. This policy was ratified by all five RIR communities in 2012 and stated that IANA would begin making equal, periodic allocations from the recovered pool when the first RIR reached a /9 of remaining addresses. This point was reached by LACNIC, the RIR for Latin America and the Caribbean on 20 May 2014, triggering the global policy and the first post-exhaustion allocation from IANA. [news] Call for Volunteers for RIPE NCC Arbiters Panel

Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC Executive Board is seeking volunteers to join the Arbiters Panel in accordance with the requirements of the RIPE NCC Conflict Arbitration Procedure and the RIPE NCC Articles of Association. Wilfried Woeber and Pierre Baume have recently resigned from their positions as arbiters. The following eight people currently make up the panel of arbiters: - Nick Williams - Kurt Kayser - Jaap Akkerhuis - Keith Mitchell - Alireza Ghafarallahi - David Freedman - James Hickman - Ondřej Surý The Executive Board is asking for volunteers to take seats on the Arbiters Panel. The Executive Board will then appoint several arbiters, depending on the number of volunteers. These appointments will be presented to the RIPE NCC General Meeting on 16 May 2018 for approval by the membership. The goal of the survey is to get an overview IPv6 deployment across the world, and to assess how this is seen from the perspective of ISPs and Enterprise users. The 2018 survey is a follow up to similar surveys run between 2008 and 2013, and will serve as a comparison with the data acquired back then. Dear RIPE NCC members, The members-discuss mailing list is the main forum for members to discuss issues of importance for the membership among themselves. However, subscribed members have increasingly experienced problems when many people requested to unsubscribe on the list, resulting in unwanted email for all subscribers. In response to requests to address this issue, we have made improvements to the subscribe and unsubscribe options for the RIPE NCC Membership Discussion mailing list. A summary of the changes is as follows: Subscribing - Subscription to the list is carried out in the usual way via the Subscribed Mailing Lists section in https://my.ripe.net. - All members who subscribe to members-discuss will receive an email asking them to confirm their subscription. Once members confirm subscription, they will receive a welcome email with a password and instructions on how to unsubscribe. - The option to subscribe has been removed from the New LIR sign-up process. Instead, members receive an email six months after activation informing them of their full member status and how to join the members discuss list. Unsubscribing Members can now unsubscribe from the list in three ways: - By clicking a personalised unsubscribe link that appears in the footer of emails they receive from the members-discuss list. You will need to use the password you received when subscribing (a forgot password functionality is available). The personalised link will also show the email address that you are subscribed to the list with. This will help to address issues with people subscribed via a role account or alias. - By sending an email to members-discuss(a)ripe.net with the subject "unsubscribe". - Unsubscribing from the list is possible in the usual way via the Subscribed Mailing Lists section in https://my.ripe.net. Members will receive an email asking them to confirm unsubscription. The members-discuss list is currently moderated but we plan to remove moderation shortly. Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC Procedural document, “Closure of Members, Deregistration of Internet Resources, and Legacy Resources” has recently been reviewed and updated. The document has been updated to ensure it is consistent with changes to the Articles of Association (AoA) that were approved by the RIPE NCC General Meeting (GM) in October 2017. The changes to the procedural document specify that once we have begun the closure procedure for a member, and RIPE NCC services have been suspended, the membership will also be suspended.
