[news] 118th / 119th RIPE NCC Executive Board Meetings, Changes in EB Roles

Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC Executive Board held its 118th Meeting on 7 September 2018 and its 119th meeting on 14 September 2018. The following is a summary of the main items from the meetings. Further details are available in the minutes. --------------- 118th Meeting --------------- - The Board asked the RIPE NCC to establish a formal conflict of interest procedure - The Board approved amendments to the procedural document "Transfer of Internet Number Resources and Change of a Member's Official Legal Name" -------------- 119th Meeting -------------- - The Board approved the publication of the Draft RIPE NCC Activity Plan and Budget 2019 - The Board approved the proposed changes to the RIPE NCC Articles of Association to be voted on at the upcoming RIPE NCC General Meeting - The Board approved the Draft Agenda for the RIPE NCC General Meeting - The Board decided to make changes to the EB roles (Chairman and Secretary) ---------------------------------------------- Changes to the RIPE NCC Executive Board Roles ---------------------------------------------- In light of the addition of two new Board members at the last General Meeting in Marseille, it was felt that some rotation of the Board functions would be beneficial. Nigel Titley has diligently and effectively carried out the role of Chairman of the Executive Board since 2008. He and the other Board members feel that now is the right time to have another Executive Board Chairman and they agreed that Christian Kaufmann would take on the role of Chairman as of 14 September. To maintain a good degree of continuity and stability with the Board roles, Remco van Mook will remain as Executive Board Treasurer and Christian's former role as Executive Board Secretary will now be filled by Nigel. We look forward to the continued support and guidance of the Executive Board in its new setup and welcome Christian to the role of Chairman. We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to Nigel for the dedicated service he has provided to the RIPE NCC and its membership in his decade of chairing the Executive Board. [GM] Draft RIPE NCC Activity Plan and Budget 2019

Dear RIPE NCC members, The Draft RIPE NCC Activity Plan and Budget 2019 is now available for your review: https://www.ripe.net/participate/meetings/gm/meetings/october-2018/draft-ri… The Draft Activity Plan and Budget is the clearest way that RIPE NCC members can learn about, comment on and ultimately shape the direction that the RIPE NCC will take in the coming year. The document contains an executive summary that provides an overview of the main activity and budgetary changes for the coming year. By publishing the draft document now, the RIPE NCC membership has four weeks until the General Meeting (GM) on Wednesday, 17 October 2018 to review and discuss the contents of the document. Further discussion will take place at the GM. We ask that you read the document and provide feedback on the Members Discuss mailing list <members-discuss at ripe.net>. The Executive Board will take note of all feedback and discussions regarding the Activity Plan and Budget before publishing a final version in December 2018. [news] RIPE NCC Receives /22 from IANA’s Recovered Pool

Dear colleagues, On 4 September 2018, the RIPE NCC and the other Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) were each allocated the equivalent of a /22 of IPv4 address space from the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). We received the following IPv4 address ranges: 192.54.244.0/24 192.144.75.0/24 192.188.248.0/24 205.211.83.0/24 This returned address space will be added to our free pool and distributed according to the current IPv4 policy. LIRs that have already received their final /22 are NOT eligible to receive any further allocations from the RIPE NCC. You can find the IPv4 policy here: https://www.ripe.net/publications/docs/ripe-708 Following the exhaustion of IANA's free pool of IPv4 addresses in 2011, when the RIRs received their final /8s, a global policy caused IANA to create a recovered pool of leftover and returned IPv4 address blocks. This policy was ratified by all five RIR communities in 2012 and stated that IANA would begin making equal, periodic allocations from the recovered pool when the first RIR reached a /9 of remaining addresses. This point was reached by LACNIC, the RIR for Latin America and the Caribbean on 20 May 2014, triggering the global policy and the first post-exhaustion allocation from IANA.
