[news] Final Reminder: Call for Nominations to the NRO NC

Dear colleagues, This is a final reminder of the call for nominations from the RIPE NCC service region to fill one vacant seat on the Number Resource Organization (NRO) Number Council (NC). The three-year term of Wilfried Woeber, who was appointed to the NRO NC by the RIPE NCC Executive Board on 7 November 2014, ends on 31 December 2017. The RIPE NCC Executive Board will select one representative from the nominees to serve a three-year term on the NRO NC beginning 1 January 2018. The decision of the Executive Board will be announced at the RIPE 75 Meeting, which will be held in Dubai from 22-26 October 2017. The deadline for nominations is 22 September 2017. Any individual residing within the RIPE NCC service region is eligible for nomination, except Regional Internet Registry (RIR) staff members. Self-nominations are permitted. All nominees may submit a written statement in support of their nomination for publication on the RIPE NCC website. Other individuals may express support for nominated individuals by emailing <nominations(a)ripe.net>. All confirmed nominations will be listed on the RIPE NCC website by 25 September 2017. [news] Global Consultation on Identifier Technical Health Indicators (ITHI) Project

This message is sent on behalf of the Number Resource Organization. The Number Resource Organization (NRO) has developed a proposal for ITHI risk identification and definition in response to an ongoing ICANN initiative. Each Regional Internet Registry (RIR) is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of its registry data. This is critical to the reliability of the RIR Whois databases which provide access to the public data of the Registry. For the purposes of measuring the state of the data, accuracy has been defined as “comprehensive, correct, and current”. The Registration Services coordination (RSCG) and Engineering coordination groups (ECG) have developed recommendations for how the RIRs can identify and measure risk associated with registry data accuracy. We are now seeking feedback on the NRO ITHI project proposal, specifically on the definition of the risks and measurements to report on registry data accuracy. [GM] Draft RIPE NCC Activity Plan and Budget 2018

Dear RIPE NCC members, The Draft RIPE NCC Activity Plan and Budget 2018 is now available for your review: https://www.ripe.net/participate/meetings/gm/meetings/october-2017/draft-ri… The Draft Activity Plan and Budget is the clearest way that RIPE NCC members can learn about, comment on and ultimately shape the direction that the RIPE NCC will take in the coming year. This year's document contains an executive summary that provides an overview of the main activity and budgetary changes for the coming year. By publishing the draft document now, the RIPE NCC membership has six weeks until the General Meeting (GM) on Tuesday, 24 October 2017 to review and discuss the contents of the document. Further discussion will take place at the GM. We ask that you read the document and provide feedback on the Members Discuss mailing list <members-discuss(a)ripe.net>. The Executive Board will take note of all feedback and discussions regarding the Activity Plan and Budget before publishing a final version in December 2017. [news] RIPE NCC Receives /20 from IANA's Recovered Pool

Dear colleagues, On 1 September 2017, the RIPE NCC and other Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) were each allocated the equivalent of a /20 of IPv4 address space from the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). The RIPE NCC received the following IPv4 address ranges: 160.20.214.0/23 160.20.248.0/23 160.238.60.0/23 160.238.96.0/22 192.145.224.0/22 204.48.32.0/23 This returned address space will be added to the RIPE NCC’s free pool and distributed according to the current IPv4 policy. LIRs that have already received their final /22 are NOT eligible to receive any further allocations from the RIPE NCC. You can find the IPv4 policy here: https://www.ripe.net/publications/docs/ripe-680 Following the exhaustion of IANA's free pool of IPv4 addresses in 2011, when the RIRs received their final /8s, a global policy caused IANA to create a recovered pool of leftover and returned IPv4 address blocks. This policy was ratified by all five RIR communities in 2012 and stated that IANA would begin making equal, periodic allocations from the recovered pool when the first RIR reached a /9 of remaining addresses. This point was reached by LACNIC, the RIR for Latin America and the Caribbean on 20 May 2014, triggering the global policy and the first post-exhaustion allocation from IANA.
