[news] NRO NC Call for Nominations: RIPE NCC Service Region

Dear colleagues, There is a call for nominations from the RIPE NCC service region to fill one vacant seat on the Number Resource Organization (NRO) Number Council (NC). The NRO NC also performs the role of the ICANN Address Supporting Organization (ASO) Address Council (AC). The term of Wilfried Woeber, who was appointed to the NRO NC by the RIPE NCC Executive Board in November 2011, ends on 31 December 2014. The RIPE NCC Executive Board will select one representative from the nominees to serve a three-year term on the NRO NC beginning 1 January 2015. The decision of the Executive Board will be announced at the RIPE 69 Meeting, which will be held in London from 3-7 November 2014. The deadline for nominations is 8 October 2014. Any individual residing within the RIPE NCC service region is eligible for nomination, except Regional Internet Registry (RIR) staff members. Self-nominations are permitted. There is no limit on the amount of terms someone can serve on the NRO NC. All nominees may submit a written statement in support of their nomination for publication on the RIPE NCC website. Other individuals may express support for nominated individuals that will be published on the RIPE NCC website. Dear colleagues, As previously announced, we are working to improve the process around requesting Internet number resources. With this email, we would like to confirm that the following request forms have now been updated in the LIR Portal: - IPv4 Allocations - IPv6 Allocations In the coming months, we will also update the other request forms (ASN, IPv6 PI and IXP). There will be no service interruptions at any time and the request forms will remain available throughout the whole process. Dear colleagues, We are pleased to announce that applications from academics to attend the RIPE 69 Meeting in London from 3-7 November as part of the RIPE Academic Cooperation Initiative (RACI) are now being accepted: http://www.ripe.net/ripe/raci Packages include meeting registration and paid travel and accommodation. Students and researchers from within the RIPE NCC service region are encouraged to apply. The closing date for applications is Friday, 12 September 2014. Interested parties can apply via the RIPE 69 website: https://ripe69.ripe.net/programme/raci/application/ Why RACI? -------------- RACI gives students and researchers a unique opportunity to present their work to leading technical figures in the Internet world, receive feedback on their research from experts, and have their work published on the RIPE Labs website for community feedback. Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC Executive Board held its 94th meeting on 19 June 2014. The draft minutes of this meeting are now available, as are the minutes of all Executive Board meetings. The draft minutes are available at: https://www.ripe.net/lir-services/ncc/executive-board/minutes/2014/minutes-… The Executive Board publishes the minutes of its meetings so that the workings of the board and the decisions it makes are transparent for the membership it represents. The following is a summary of the main items from the meeting. Further details are available in the minutes: - Jochem de Ruig gave an update on the current financial standing - The Executive Board discussed the tax implications of any redistribution of surpluses from excess revenue to RIPE NCC members - The Executive Board asked the RIPE NCC to investigate an option to set up a separate foundation for "the good of the Internet" funds, to lower surplus in the RIPE NCC association and build up a foundation that holds continuity funds for the good of the Internet - There was approval of the RIPE NCC Treasury Statute - The Executive Board discussed the development of RIPE Atlas and its associated costs - The Executive Board discussed the RIPE NCC Budget for 2015 - The NTIA oversight transition process was discussed You can give feedback by emailing the Executive Board directly at <exec-board(a)ripe.net>. [news] Improving Request Forms in the LIR Portal

Dear colleagues, The results of the RIPE NCC Survey 2013 identified resource requests as an area for improvement, and we have received feedback from new LIRs about difficulties with the process of becoming a member and requesting Internet number resources. We believe there is a lot we can do to simplify things, so we are currently working to improve the request forms in the LIR Portal. The goal is to make it easier for members to request resources while streamlining our own internal processes. On Monday, 28 July 2014, we will begin updating the following request forms in the LIR Portal: - IPv4 First Allocation - IPv4 Additional Allocation - IPv6 First Allocation This will be followed by improvements to the other request forms (ASN, IPv6 PI and IXP) over the following two months. There will be no service interruptions at any time and the request forms will remain available throughout this process. Dear colleagues, The server hosting the RIPE Meeting websites and archives is back online, following our investigation into the security incident from last week. In this process we identified and removed an old script that was vulnerable to compromise. We also conducted an audit of all the software on the server to make sure it is patched and up-to-date.
