[training] IP Address Space Course this November in London

Dear colleagues, We still have places left for the new RIPE NCC training course that will take place on the Sunday before the RIPE 69 Meeting in London this November. This new course will focus on how to obtain, transfer, manage and protect your IP address space. The course is free of charge and is open to anyone interested. The course will cover the most frequently asked questions the RIPE NCC receives about IP address space. Course title: RIPE NCC Presents: IP Address Space Basics How to obtain, transfer, manage and protect your IP addresses Goals: By the end of this course, you will be able to: - Manage your IPv4 and IPv6 addresses according to current RIPE Policies - Understand how to obtain IPv4 addresses through transfers - Protect your address space from hijacking Target audience: Anyone interested in the policies and procedures around address space in the RIPE NCC service region, and companies looking at address space transfers, mergers and acquisitions. No prior knowledge of the topic is necessary. Time: Sunday, 2 November, 10:00–16:00 Outline: - Becoming a RIPE NCC member (why and how) - Obtaining IP addresses (IPv4 and IPv6) - IP address space transfers, mergers and acquisitions - IPv6 basics - Address space hijacking - Resource Certification (RPKI) Cost: Free of charge. Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC provides important services to a membership spread across a diverse geographical and political region. The Executive Board of the RIPE NCC believes that the means of communication should not be affected by political discussions or disputes. This includes the provision of correctly registered Internet numbering resources. The Executive Board of the RIPE NCC is committed to taking all lawful steps available to ensure that the RIPE NCC can provide undisrupted services to all members across our service region. The RIPE NCC and its staff can not and will not take positions with regard to specific political disputes. The RIPE NCC will publicly document all efforts to ensure that provision of registration services is not disrupted by laws, regulation or political developments. [news] IANA Stewardship: Draft RIPE Proposal Published

Dear colleagues, An initial working draft of the RIPE community proposal on IANA stewardship has been posted to the RIPE Cooperation Working Group mailing list. This text should not be regarded as final - it is intended to act as a basis for discussions over the coming weeks. There will also be a dedicated session at RIPE 69 in London on Thursday, 6 November, to discuss these issues. Remote participation will be available for those unable to be present. Anyone with an interest is encouraged to provide feedback on this draft proposal via the RIPE Cooperation Working Group mailing list. You can subscribe to this list at: http://www.ripe.net/mailman/listinfo/cooperation-wg/ Best regards, Chris Buckridge, RIPE NCC RIPE Community IANA Stewardship Proposal [DRAFT] ———————————————————————— The RIPE community asks the RIPE NCC to work with the other RIRs to produce a common proposal for a legally binding agreement (such as a Service Level Agreement) between ICANN and the RIRs to replace the Internet number-related elements of the ICANN-NTIA agreement. This proposal should meet the requirements of the Request For Proposals (RFP) produced by the IANA Stewardship Transistion Coordination Group (ICG). The proposal should bring the provisions of the agreement related to the services and service levels up-to-date with current requirements where necessary. This work should be coordinated with the other users of the IANA function as much as practical, with the aim of producing a proposed arrangement that is compatible with the proposed arrangements of the other IANA users. The RIPE community asks the RIPE NCC and the other RIRs keep it informed about progress and content of the proposal. The RIPE community asks the RIPE NCC to complete the proposal and to submit it to the ICG before 15 January 2015.

This follows the publication of an RIR Governance Matrix in August 2014. These two documents provide stakeholders with a solid overview of existing RIR governance structures. [news] 95th RIPE NCC Executive Board Meeting Summary Notes and Minutes

Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC Executive Board held its 95th meeting on 12 September 2014. The draft minutes of this meeting are now available: https://www.ripe.net/lir-services/ncc/executive-board/minutes/2014/minutes-… The Executive Board publishes the minutes of its meetings so that the workings of the Board and the decisions it makes are transparent for the membership that it represents. The following is a summary of the main items from the meeting. Further details are available in the minutes: - The Board discussed the new draft tax ruling with the Dutch authorities. In 2014, the RIPE NCC can reserve its surplus tax-free in the Clearing House. From 2015 onwards, the General Meeting (GM) can decide either to put the surplus (deficit) into the Clearing House after paying corporate income tax or to redistribute the surplus (deficit) to the members. The Board agreed that from 2015 onwards they would ask the RIPE NCC members whether they want to pay tax or redistribute the suplus/deficit. This would take place at each autumn GM. - The Board approved the new RIPE NCC Standard Service Agreement (SSA) that includes an update to Article 7, the RIPE NCC Clearing House, because of the new tax ruling. This will be put forward to be voted on by the membership at the RIPE NCC General Meeting on 5 November 2014. - The Board asked the RIPE NCC to prepare a resolution to outline actions in the event of sanctions being imposed on a country within the RIPE NCC service region. - The Board discussed proposed areas for potential expenditure of RIPE NCC resources for the good of the Internet. The Board would like the membership and community to discuss any proposed activities. - The Board approved the Draft RIPE NCC Activity Plan and Budget 2015, which is published for membership discussion at: https://www.ripe.net/lir-services/ncc/gm/november-2014/draft-ripe-ncc-activ… - The Executive Board decided to set the electronic voting period for the upcoming GM to close at 09:00 UTC on Friday, 7 November 2014. The results will be announced before the closing plenary at 10:45 UTC on the same day.
