Stuart,
All the bgp routers will be upgraded if I will be elected, you can be sure of it, including EOL routers, there is and there will be solution for anything.
My i suggest, if you getg voted, that you also change the following things in these planed upgrades, to all bgp related routing devices in the whole internet: - missing ipv6 support on old EOL devices - missing rpki features on old devices - missing support for 4-byte ASN’s on old devices - adding more ressources (cpu, ram) on older routers, which actually are in trouble with these ressources, keeping the whole routing-table, which might not get better, by extending now bgp, with additional information …. (older routers, are limited in these ressources and can not be upgraded) There is a reason, why we have since 20 years IPv6 and it is not fully rolled out and working on the whole world …. there is a reason, why we are not able to change the whole smtp, and have to build work arounds to reduce and filter spam …. We also need to change smtp …. dns …. and maybe everyone should filter udp …. or we just do a fully lockdown of the internet ….. To be really sure, we also can just power off all routers on the world …. no spam any more …. no DDoS attacks any more …. To be serous …. upgrading all and every device on the world, which is speaking bgp, is just not possible …. This is my technical point of view …. My personal point of view is, that this list, should not be used, to discuss this topics here, it was several times told in the last days … and again, the same thing …. There is a way, to present these things …. answering on the call of papers, for the ripe meetings, and doing a presentation there regards, Andi -- Andrae Marx
