Hi Fergal,
that has never worked completely. There have always been bots and ticketing systems subscribed to the list. We can all give you a list of the bots and the email addresses that need to be forcefully unsubscribed from the members-discuss list.
So, I think it's time we propose and vote to give the RIPE NCC the mandate to really maintain this mailing list and forcefully unsubscribe the bots and auto-responders. Dear members, do you agree with my idea?

Hi,
Can I please ask RIPE staff to look at the list again and get all the
bots to be unsubscribed ? It’s very disruptive to get a significant
number of ticket desks, autoresponders, or mailer daemon emails every
time you send anything to the discussion list…
