IPv6 is cheaper to implement, but the transition is a curse for admins. They don't understand it, because they only know 255. Companies should clean up their IPv4 networks. Fees should be fairer for members. We have costs that are rising with the maturity. Yes, perhaps a red line should be applied there. But we're all clear on this point, only because there is a membership charter, and it's not exactly fair. It's about fair distribution. And companies that earn millions should also understand that they have to do their share. And not just laugh and say, "Yeah, unfortunately, you came 30 years too late." You won't even be able to get started in the market. We need to come up with a new fee structure that is fair to all members. Yes, I'm exaggerating about the statement about millions. But it should be possible to even consider approaches to a fair model. Everyone should openly say how we could improve the model without being immediately punished by others. Suggestions are welcome. Just because the model is 30 years old doesn't necessarily make it good or fair. Suggestions are ideas, and they can be good, bad, or whatever. But that's what suggestions are about: the exchange of ideas and opinions. Just because I like chocolate ice cream the most doesn't mean everyone has to share my opinion. or even like ice cream. Hi! If you mean the network administrators in organisations, we are on the same page. Because of them, ISPs feel the need of IPv4. End users / consumers and network / backbone operators are good to go. I have the same problem myself. As a newbie, I only got an IPv4 network through the waiting list. I hope it's finally my turn in a month or two. I've worked my way up from 1183rd place to 72nd place. Given the current international situation with IPv6, I urgently need it if I want to make any money with services for businesses. And as a web host who rents out VServers, you really need more than a /24; even as a small company, I would like a /22. All customers want cheap VServers. But they have both IPv4 and IPv6. I don't get any money for pure IPv6 VServers. I'm the last person who doesn't support IPv6 only. But I also believe that as long as /16 and more are just lying around in the corners and some people are making a lot of money by selling and renting IPv4, IPv6 will only be running on the side for the next 20 years because some people can no longer get IPv4 or can only afford it. I currently have IPv6-only in my test infrastructure to test where it still has problems. Likewise, I need to be able to read and write IPv6 addresses, not just 255.255.255.255, which is much easier for many people and IPv6 is not even being considered. What is currently bothering me is the fee model. I have almost no chance of earning money and my costs are extreme, especially in Germany, for connections and electricity. But I have the same membership fee as those who use IPv4 as a money-making machine, and we are even at the mercy of the situation because of the general stock and have to rent or buy to have any future as a business. Something simply has to be done more vigorously. Revisited: Concerns about cloud usage at RIPE NCC

Hi all, Last november i wrote a post to this mailinglist, voicing my concerns about the wide use of US based cloud services at the RIPE NCC. This was just before the US elections took place. RIPE NCC (Felipe) responded to my concerns, and the last sentence of that mail was: "It is difficult to run our operations if we have to speculate on what governments can and cannot do. Instead, we apply a risk-based approach, paying close attention to the contracts we sign with these providers and ensuring that the obligations described in them give the highest possible level of privacy and security for our members." Now, a lot has happened in the world since november, and without going into every detail, i think it is safe to conclude that the US and its big tech companies can no longer be seen as reliable partners when it comes to storing our personal data. In fact it could soon become illegal for EU businesses and organisations to store personal data on US owned cloud platforms; the Transatlantic Data Privacy Framework (TADPF) that allows a free flow of EU data to US providers relies on the "Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board" (PCLOB) for oversight on data protection laws. Already in january, Mr Trump fired all democratic board members of the PCLOB, rendering the board powerless, as they now lack the required quorum necessary to operate. This means that the foundation of the TADPF has essentially been removed, and while EU organisations can still rely on the agreement as long as it's not formally annulled by the European Commission or the Court of Justice, it is now more important than ever to have a contingency plan. So, since the RIPE NCC applies a risk-based approach, my question would be: What contingency plan is there in place for the RIPE NCC?
