[ncc-announce] RIPE Labs article on the Duke/RIPE NCC BGP experiment

Dear Colleagues, On Friday, 27 August, at 08:41 (UTC), RIPE NCC staff involved in the Routing Information Service (RIS) project conducted an Internet routing experiment in conjunction with a research group from Duke University in the United States. The goal of this experiment was to further global understanding of Internet routing behaviour, specifically the use of optional attributes in Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). The experiment ended as scheduled at 09:08 (UTC). Shortly after this, we discovered that the experiment had caused an unexpected and unintended negative impact on Internet operations, lasting for approximately 30 minutes. [ncc-announce] LIR Portal Upgrade

Dear Colleagues, The RIPE NCC is currently upgrading the LIR Portal to a newer software version, increasing the flexibility, quality and reliability, and including a single sign-on system. To help ensure a smooth deployment, the upgrade is rolled out in stages. The first stage of deployment, upgrading the Billing section of the site, was carried out on 14 April 2010. The Training section and the Resource Lists were upgraded as well. The second stage, which includes all resource request forms and wizards, will be deployed today, 31 August. Downtime of the portal should be less than one minute. The deployment of the new portal software including the sign-in system does not yet include the entire LIR Portal. Users may find that they are asked to sign in more than once as they move between different sections of the site. This will continue until the single sign-on system has been fully deployed throughout the LIR Portal. The remaining old LIR Portal sections will be replaced in the final upgrade, scheduled to take place in the fourth quarter of 2010. After this final deployment, all functionality of the LIR Portal will be available under the single sign-on system. The migration to newer software might result in some small changes, but the overall look and feel should not be affected in a very noticeable way. [Apologies for duplicate emails] Dear Colleagues, Register now for the Middle East Network Operators Group (MENOG) 7/RIPE NCC Regional Meeting, which will be held in Istanbul, Turkey from 21-29 October 2010. This is the first time a MENOG/RIPE NCC Regional Meeting will be held in Turkey. We would like to thank the hosts Terremark and Turk Telekom for supporting this event. MENOG meetings are excellent opportunities to share ideas and experiences with other network operators and network engineers from across the Middle East, to develop cross-regional cooperation and to meet with key players in the local and global Internet industry. The MENOG 6 Meeting, held in Riyadh in April 2010, attracted over 130 attendees from 19 countries, and we expect the MENOG 7 Meeting to build on the success of that event.
