We've had a couple of registration requests recently, where a large number of Class Cs have been asked for for what is quite a small number of hosts, maybe 5-6 per Class C. Normally we would assign maybe 1 or 2 Class Cs in such a case, and suggest they subnet them. The justification offered for this is that the routing sotware for Novell servers and/or Novell Lan Workplace (their PC TCP/IP software) does not support subnetting of Class Cs. My initial reaction was disbelief that this sort of Dinosaur DNA is still so prevalent, but more than one offer of this sort of justification seems to suggest it is. So, the question is, what approach do we take. Do we make life easy for the applicants, and give them one Class C per subnet, or do we say no, this is a problem for the vendor, in order to put concerted pressure on Novell to do somehing about their "gas guzzlers" ?
