Why do you think confederate AS should belong to the same company ? And you can force one of them to use private AS ?
Uhm...why would you like to do confederations over multiple administrative domains? Beats me.
I may imagine only one case - customer's AS peering with public IX.
Yes, IX is another example that AS is originated but not visible in the GLOBAL routing table.
If the IX doesn't provide services they wan't visible to the entire world, why can't they use a private AS? Most IX:Es will require you to announce their AS if they peer with you, so that common services (like root name-servers, NTP servers, etc) are visible to all. Then they need a public AS and it will be visible. - kurtis -
