Well depending on the service port mapping can be used to deliver services to customers - it doesn't work with everything but it does work - I used to use it for Napster.
Yes it works, but is this realistic for a large customer base? You are going to have a _lot_ of non-standard port services around that you need to administer and coordinate with ASPs. Speaking for myself only, I do not consider it an alterative.
