Daniel, When I brief the InterNIC Registration Services I alway reference delegated registries. The RIPE NCC is the example that I give of one that is correctly operated. Somehow when writing this RFC I got caught-up in the operation of our facility and unintentionally failed to say anything about the RIPE NCC. I feel you are correct about the potential for mis-directed request. I will work with you either to add to RFC1400 or document the delegation of services to the RIPE NCC. I plan to be at the IETF most of the week. Scott
Scott, Jon,
I am extremely concerned that RFC1400, titled
Transition and Modernization of the Internet Registration Service
has been written and published without any reference to the European part of the Internet Registration Service. This will cause unnecessary confusion among European users and result in more rather than less mis-directed registration requests.
I suggest that a revised version describing the distributed nature of the Internet Registration Service and clearly directing European users to the RIPE NCC be published within days rather than weeks. I will have to leave for Columbus shortly. I wil suggest some changes to you there and like to discuss this with both of you.
Daniel
