[ipv6-wg@ripe.net] urls with ipv6 ip.
hi all, I couldn't load a loacal page from my linux system with IPv6 link local IP,(The browser used was netscape7). When the site local ip is added to the system, could load the page using that ip. Is it possible to load a page with link local ip using netscape or any other browser. Thanks in advance. Don't use link-local addresses. You have to add the scope, like fe80::260:8ff:fe5e:888d%eth0 to make it work (or -I eth1 in ping6), which is not supported in netscape/mozilla. HTH, br, Kurt On Thu, 2003-02-06 at 10:15, Priyaupnp@netscape.net wrote:

Next to that literal url's http://[3ffe:8114::1] are deprecated. One should not be embedding IP's inside websites, some smart people thought up DNS just for that. Windows 2k's IE did understand it but in at least XP/.Net and up it won't work any more. And yes there is exactly 1 good reason why you might want to use IP's in url's. Eg for webbased printer/gateway configuration etc. But on the otherhand you could also throw that IP into DNS as you are bound to be using somewhere else too. Greets, Jeroen
