Peace, Just ran over an update on my daughter's handheld console, and the update brought in some IPv6 support! It still lacks many things, honestly, doesn't work fine on an IPv6 only network, and only supports DHCP for the IP address acquisition but hey, it's a progress! ... A bit of a context for those unaware: Nintendo Switch — the 3rd most popular video gaming console *ever* — was a major blocker in deploying end-user home access IPv6-only networks for a *decade*, in my experience. It didn't support IPv6 at all until late, which has been mentioned in some talks at RIPE meetings as well. Now we'll just have to wait until the legacy Nintendo consoles wear out quick — the task that, judging by the console build quality, the manufacturer was as eager as us to achieve. And the enemy left will be, mostly, babycams and surveillance cameras. -- Töma

On the third run it just acquired an IP via SLAAC, so, well, I stand corrected, hooray! -- Töma

What kind of SLAAC? EUI based, or random or stable? My son has a Switch 1, I imagine it won't get upgraded. -- Michael Richardson <mcr+IETF@sandelman.ca> . o O ( IPv6 IøT consulting ) Sandelman Software Works Inc, Ottawa and Worldwide

Note that release-day Switch 2 had IPv6 support. That is, it configured an address using SLAAC. Now, for games and utilities to actually use it is a completely different thing. Same goes for Playstation that is FreeBSD-based, configures an address, but afaik never really uses it. Noting that once upon a time there was a Playstation 2 Network Adapter and that supported IPv6... does not make the software use it though; let alone work on IPv6-only networks... https://www.neoseeker.com/news/1061-scei-announces-new-internet-protocol-for... There was a lot more information about it, but that of course got lost in the history of search engines... Playstation 4 had it at least since 3.50 too: https://toreanderson.github.io/2016/06/15/ipv6-support-in-the-playstation-4.... Regards, Jeroen

A Nintendo console having IPv6 support before GitHub was not on my yearly bingo, but oh well. -- Jae "J4" Lo Presti https://j4.lc +1 (438) 500-2694 +358 (0)942459241
