Update: SURFnet "Preparing an IPv6 Address Plan" document
Dear colleagues, The SURFnet manual "Preparing an IPv6 Address Plan" has been updated and is now available for download. https://www.ripe.net/lir-services/training/material/IPv6-for-LIRs-Training-C... Since its initial release in 2011, this manual has proved to be one of the most popular downloads from the RIPE NCC website. It guides you through the steps you need to take to create an effective and comprehensive IPv6 address plan. The manual is aimed at network managers and network architects who are implementing IPv6 in their networks. It covers the following areas: - Introduction to IPv6 addresses - Options for working without an address plan - Preparing an address plan for a network - Detailed examples - Managing hosts We are delighted to have been involved with the production of this extremely useful and easy-to-follow guide. The RIPE NCC is committed to helping with the deployment of IPv6, and we believe that "Preparing an IPv6 Address Plan" is essential reading for all those who share that commitment. Kind regards, Nathalie Trenaman RIPE NCC
Regarding Section 4.12 "Addressing Point-to-point Links", I draw your attention to RFC6164, "Using 127-Bit IPv6 Prefixes on Inter-Router Links". And for Sections 4.13 and 5.1 referring to EUI-64-based address generation, http://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-6man-ug/ has passed 6man Working Group Last Call and might be of interest. This may be particularly so in datacentre contexts, where MAC addresses may be virtual and duplicated. Tom Taylor On 27/09/2013 9:13 AM, Nathalie Trenaman wrote:
