As you may remember from an earlier message. We are currently working on an open source LIR IP address management tool and would like your feedback on the following question.
What is the preferred choice of backing storage (database) for the IP allocations and pertaining information?
We currently have implemented an XML2 backend and a Berkeley DB backend, and intend to add LDAP (actually OpenLDAP)? Would anybody strongly want something else? and why?
[ Not an answer, but FYI: ] In installing a few existing tools, we found DB setup to be the most time-consuming and error-prone part. So we want to provide an easy "DB-less" install for users who don't have their own and would be confused by a DB setup, but allow users with their own DBs to use them. We'll use Perl DBI/DBD to make this easier.
