Dear previous participants of our hackathon, we are having the fifth one! topic: DNS Measurements dates: Thursday and Friday, 20-21 April 2017 place: Amsterdam *The application deadline is 26 February 2017* https://atlas.ripe.net/hackathon/dns-measurements/#!application-form You already know the procedure & the fun; here are the differences: * this time we still don't have any sponsors confirmed, so there is very little budget for covering travel expenses * it's not in the weekend - it's during working days! * it's not attached to the RIPE meeting * it _might_ be in the _new_ RIPE NCC offices, unless we accept so many people (and get a few sponsors), in which case we will rent a room somewhere close by, still in Amsterdam. * I would like to give preference to those who have not already been to one of our events -- but, OTOH, I'd be happy to see you again... And please spread the word -- I'm still especially looking for more women to join one of our events, to increase the diversity. Vesna -------- Forwarded Message -------- Dear colleagues, RIPE NCC is hosting a hackathon in the weekend before RIPE73, in Madrid, together with Euro-IX, Comcast and ISOC, focused on IXP-related-tools. We will use RIPE Atlas data, RIS data, PeeringDB data, existing software tools that deal with IXP-data-integration (such as IXP manager, IXP-Countri-Jedi...) in order to solve some of the challenges that operators have when making peering decisions, and to illustrate the impact of IXPs on the Internet routing and connectivity. We are looking for designers and developers, students and network operators, and of course colleagues from IXPs, to work together on hacking the new & old toolsets and visualizations! Tremors were felt (measured 5 on RS) at my hometown, Lucknow [1] (around 500km away from epicentre). Phone lines were disrupted for an hour. DVB-T signals are still disrupted. Internet connectivity is okay — this is from 1 vantage point. Advancing your hackathon projects

All of the projects I saw in Amsterdam looked great, and I know a few of you may be continuing to finish up work in advance of the upcoming RIPE meeting in May. If any of you are interested in small grants to develop additional enhancements to make the visualizations even more valuable to the community – we at Comcast have a grants fund to which you can apply. See http://techfund.comcast.com/. The grants usually take 30 – 60 days to review once submitted, so it probably won’t get you something before the RIPE meeting. But it may nevertheless be of interest to some of you. Of course, the same basic rule from the hackathon applies — the work should be open sourced and beneficial to the general RIPE Atlas / RIPE / Internet community. While I will not be at the May RIPE meeting, at least one person from my team will be: Chae Chung (copied). Feel free to reach out to him if you have any interest in discussing Internet performance measurement and visualizations. :-) Regards Jason
