hi! we had that some time ago. now it's getting more concrete: http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/51877 (german only again, sorry) short summary: regtp (the german regulator) now prohibits (voip) providers in general to give phonenumbers to users that do not live in the area of the respective prefix or have their company located there. this is effective from october 15th. btw: the non-regional prefix under +49 is still not in sight. so - of course :) - i have to mention the 'proposal for non-regional upts available to the general public' again. everyone interested in possible solutions to many voip-specific problems with e.164 numbers should really read this (can be found in the archive of this mailinglist). kind regards, Chris Heinze

We are now investigating and searching information ralating to ENUM deployment around the world in order to prepare our trial. Hi Carsten We're looking at re-activating a group mailing list that has been dormant for a year or more -- in principle, it would be a good idea if we had a vehicle for exchanging information now that the trial is about to start. Dear Carsten There is an Australian ENUM Discussion Group that meets to discuss and advise on the framework for the Australian ENUM trial; its web page is at http://internet.aca.gov.au/ACAINTER.65650:STANDARD:1078325456:pc=PC_2319. There is a mailing list for the group, but to date it has only dealt with administrative matters. The next meeting is scheduled for the 17th of May and is expected to be devoted to the launch of the Australian trial, the operation of the Tier 1 Registry, and rights of use of numbers that are registered in ENUM. For the agenda of ENUM wg at RIPE-50

We have two additional important points for the agenda of this wg: (1) Reconfirmation of the task of this wg Initially, the participants of this wg requested the creation so that operational experiences of ENUM could be exchanged and recorded. These experiences could be everything from sort of technical DNS issues, via how to implement technically regulatory "bottlenecks", to experience of how to set up registries etc. We have the webpage where the status of ENUM deployment is recorded, the mailing list and the meetings to fulfil this pretty generic task. This is at least what we chairs of this wg believe the task of the wg is, but, we want to check this is matching the interest of the RIPE community. (2) Transfer of responsibilty to new co-chairs As expected and planned, myself and Kim don't have so much time to work actively as leaders of this group. Because of this, the wg accepted Niall O'Reilly as co-chair of the wg. We would like to do the following changes now, to fulfil the transfer of leadership. Suggestion: New co-chair, and primary contact for the wg: Carsten Scheifner Continuing co-chair: Niall O'Reilly Removed co-chair and primary contact: Patrik Fältström Removed co-chaor: Kim Davies We would like to know whether this is ok with the participants of this wg. Australian ENUM trial launched

The Australian (not Austrian) ENUM trial was launched in Melbourne today by the Australian communications minister. It was announced at the launch that the Australian regulator has entered into an agreement with AusRegistry International Pty Ltd (www.ausregistry.com.au <http://www.ausregistry.com.au> ) to provide and operate the registry service for the trial. AusRegistry International is a subsidiary of the company that is the current registry operator and wholesale provider for all commercial .au domain names and certain non-commercial .au domain names. The go-live data for the trial will be Monday the 6th of June. At this early stage, 2 registrars -- Enetica (www.enetica.com.au <http://www.enetica.com.au> ) and AARNet (www.aarnet.edu.au <http://www.aarnet.edu.au> ) -- have indicated they will participate in the trial.
