Greetings Here is the proposed schedule for us - RIPE are trying to fit in an ICANN/ASO workshop and a joint LIR/IPv6 meeting. Suggestions for the scheduling of the ICANN/ASO meeting welcome. The next meeting will be in Amsterdam - September 11-15 2000. -=-=-=- Switching Wishlists for vendors Mike Hughes presented very briefly on the opportunity to present wish lists to vendors. Since the meeting I have had one vendor representative say that they are keen to have this dialogue with IXs. Mike has posted to the list and hopefully will follow up with a url to his presentation once it has been HTML'ised. -=-=-=- Change of Charter We are moving from an information WG to more of "Action Point WG" this means that we need to change the charter. -=-=-=-

Sorry for the late response. We use the "Please update filters" messages from our peers as follows: Upon receipt of such a message, we regenerate the filters from IRR information. Then we either confirm that we now accept the routes mentioned in the message, or we ask the peer to put them in the IRR. -- Simon. SWITCH (AS559)

Filter update procedures

Hi, This is probably a recurring discussion... Feel free to point me to older threads on the same subject. Also, the discussion might be more appropriate in another forum (routing WG, specific IX mailing lists...)? The issue is that of route filtering procedures between peers. Some of us (especially those that are present on many IXes) receive quite a bunch of "please update your filters with AS so and so and routes so and so", but I wonder if anyone uses them? I have the feeling most people either: - don't filter anything - filter based on IRR (RADB/RIPE DB...) contents (using an as-macro), with regular automatic updates I don't feel manually updated filters are very realistic. I guess a small survey on "who needs notification of new announcements" would be a good idea... I suspect we'd end up with a very small list. Some specific field in AS descriptions in the RIPE DB to indicate notification of changes would be great too. It would avoid "spamming" everybody with the filter updates. Comments? Switching Wishlist

Hi all, Well, if you were in Budapest you will have seen that I had to fly through that presentation very quickly as we were pressed for time, so I'll quickly recap.... The main points are that this needs your input as well, but I'll be happy to bring at all together. If there's something not there that you think should be there, or if any of you have any ideas about anything else to go on, or want to help drawing up one or more of the specs, please let me know. EIX-WG Agenda for RIPE 35 Session One 1 Scribe 2 Agenda Bashing 3 IX reports Linx Amsix VIX I have been told that at least two other IXs plan to present but have not had confirmation yet. There is still room if you turn up on the day. 4 Y2K - what happened feedback from IXs 5 IPv6 and IXs - continution of RIPE 34 discussion. This is a spaceholder if the IPv6 group have any issues they want raised. Session Two - this may be in Session One if there is time. 6 Mike Hughes from Linx - IXP Switching Wishlist Abstract: Layer 2 based IXPs have a number of requirements for security, traffic management and scaleability. Some ISPs have chosen to implement ATM to either solve or workaround these needs. This presentation contains the beginnings for a wishlist of features that would be usefully implemented in Ethernet switching platforms for pure layer 2 ethernet IXPs, and serves to encourage discussion on the topic among exchange points and switch vendors. Followed by a discussion. (expected time 30 minutes) Keith Mitchell has agreed to chair the meeting as I am unable to attend due to my new job, that has me on the other side of the Atlantic for the next two weeks.
