Problems with bind.4.8.3
we have discovered a problem with our bind.4.8.3. It does not correctly handel records of type TXT for zones where our DNS is a secondary for. What version of bind is the current production version and where can the source or patches be obtained from? What versions do you use? I have heard of the alpha and beta tests of a new version of bind, but I'd rather prefer, as I said, a production version. Willi Huber

As far as I know TXT records are not *standard* and should be avoided. -- ---------- ---------- Antonio_Blasco Bonito E-Mail: bonito@nis.garr.it GARR - Network Information Service c=it;a=garr;p=garr;o=nis;s=bonito c/o CNUCE - Istituto del CNR Tel: +39 (50) 593246 Via S. As far as I know TXT records are not *standard* and should be avoided. Aw, come on! TXT records *are* standard: see e.g. RFC1035. They may not be *commonly* used, but they are frequently used nevertheless. And in certain cases I'd even consider them mandatory; e.g. each and every primary .NL subdomain has a TXT record associated with it that clearly identifies the domain; and in cases where I "reserve" a domain, I only enter a TXT record in the NL zone file. The DE-NIC makes available it's production use BIND version (4.8.3 with a number of patches) by anonymous FTP on host deins.Informatik.Uni-Dortmund.DE in directory DNS/src/bind.
