VoIP Numbering Plan Vs. Domain names. IPNP
Hi, Is there any work being done on the above subject ? With the rapid development of the VoIP technology, the existing of many manufacturers that are developing VoIP systems and the fact that there are several VoIP systems that within them selves do have management capabilities, but not when trying to communicate outside of the system. There is a need for a universal IPNP (IP Numbering Plan) system. So that every equipment that will be connected to the Internet will have a unique DN (Directory Number). Thus, when trying to connect outside of the system to another subscriber that is connected to another system there will be an IPNP server that will resolve the DN into a valid IP address. This DN will be the same as an existing PSTN Numbering Plan, e.g. if my phone number is +972-3-9263397 ( 972- is the Israel code, 3- is the local area code, and 9263397 is the phone number). Then all we need to change is the local area code, same as done with the cellophane system. I.e. my Internet phone number will be +972-xx-9263397 where xx is to be determined. Another issue is that for each VoIP system there is a GateKeeper which one of its functions is to provide entrance to the system’s management. It is in my believe that those GateKeepers should be labeled with a unique set of domain names i.e. .VOIP e.g. tadirantele.voip or in a similar method.
