I have the 217.73.64.0/20 IP block assigned to me. I am trying to setup some reverse DNS records.
I created the zone 64.73.217.in-addr.arpa which is answering queries fine. However when I create any other zone files withing that /20, they do not answer the queries. I have logged into the RIPE website and am trying to find where the DNS is specified for an IP range but can not seem to find it.
Any advice on how to proceed with this problem?
You have to create a zone for each /24 block of address space within your /20 allocation. So you'll need to set up zones like 64.73.217.in-addr.arpa, 65.73.217.in-addr.arpa and so on until 79.73.217.in-addr.arpa. After that, you'll need to create domain objects in the RIPE Database to get delegation for these zones to your name servers. Please see the reverse DNS howto on the RIPE NCC website at: http://www.ripe.net/rs/reverse/reverse_howto.html Regards, Anand Buddhdev, DNS Services Manager, RIPE NCC
