Hello,
The following banner can be found at the InterNIC FTP site:
220- Please be advised that on March 31, 1998 InterNIC will be shutting 220- down permanently and will no longer be in service. The databases that 220- you own will need to be either moved to another location or put out 220- of service. 220- 220- We apologize for this event but it will be the end of the InterNIC 220- Cooperative Agreement that was funded by the National Science 220- Foundation and AT&T.
I knew the fact that NSI lost its contract with the NSF from earlier. Any comments on impacts of this shutdown on the root servers, in-addr.arpa zone, nTLDs and gTLDs?
IP address allocation and reverse lookup matters (IN-ADDR.ARPA) have been handed over to ARIN. This does not affect domain names, as far as I know, since this is not decided yet. US Gov is working on it.
Regards, Beri
