.... Any comments on impacts of this shutdown on the root servers, in-addr.arpa zone, nTLDs and gTLDs?
After intensive discussions around the IETF meeting last week I am confident that there will be no instability in the services that are provided by the InterNIC at present. The address space related services are being transferred to ARIN (see http://www.arin.net/). This includes the relevant protions of the in-addr.arpa zone. There are intensive discussions about setting up a structure for the IANA including the root-server and TLD related services. RIPE and the RIPE NCC are actively taking part in these discussions. Drastic changes to the services are not likely during this process because everyone involved, including the InerNIC and the US government, is interested in a smooth transition. I will report more about these things at the upcoming RIPE meeting. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Kind regards Daniel Karrenberg RIPE NCC Manager
