This will remain a can of worms, always. True. Some time ago the "Instituut voor Nederlandse Geschiedenis" (Institute for Dutch History) registered "ing.nl". However, two Dutch banks merged (aroud the same) and became "Internationale Nederlanden Groep"... If you ask somebody in The Netherlands where ING stands for, 99 to 100 he'll say "Internationale Nederlanden Groep". To stay closer to "home": in Amsterdam there is an institute "Centrum voor Wiskunde en Informatica" (Centre for Mathematics and Computer Science), where I happen to work. ;-) It's name is abbreviated to and commonly known as CWI. But there is also an institute "Clara Wichmann Institute", which "in its circles" is known as CWI. They haven't tried to register cwi.nl yet. ;-) But if you ask just somebody in The Netherlands what CWI stands for, there's a fair chance (s)he won't know... :-) Piet
