If you allow multiple names to one address, what do you put in the PTR record that will yield meaningful results in logs?
Well I personally make sure PTR records always return the canonical name of the host and nothing else, no matter how many A or AAAA records exist for that IP address.
for "fun" - some folks rotate the various canonical names that exist for any given A or AAAA or (for difficult types) A6 records that exist. and Jim, you confuse me. posit: twinkle.little.bat. AAAA 3ffe::dead:beef muffet.satona.tuffit. aaaa 3ffe::dead:beef PDC.e164.arpa. AAAA 3ffe::dead:beef which is THE canonical lable for the address 3ffe::dead:beef ?? --bill
