Title : New Registries and the Delegation of International
Top Level Domains
Author(s) : J. Postel
Filename : draft-postel-iana-itld-admin-02.txt
Pages : 32
Date : 08/21/1996
This document describes a policy, procedure, and control structure for the
allocation of additional top-level domains The Appendix A.1 of this
document discusses the issues surrounding additional international top
level domains (iTLDs) and registries.
This document describes policies and procedures to
o allow open competition in domain name registration in the iTLDs,
o and provide the IANA with a legal and financial umbrella
Note that while cooperation between competing iTLD registries is allowed,
it is not required. This is specifically not assumed in this proposal,
and is considered to be an operational aspect of a registry best determined,
and coordinated, by contractual agreements between private interests.

Send a message to: mailserv(a)ds.internic.net. In the body type:
"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-postel-iana-itld-admin-02.txt".
NOTE: The mail server at ds.internic.net can return the document in
MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility. To use this
feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE"
command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or
a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e., documents which have been split
up into multiple messages), so check your local documentation on
how to manipulate these messages.
For questions, please mail to Internet-Drafts(a)ietf.org
Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version
of the Internet-Draft.

People who are on the nanog list probably already have seen this,
but it is worth repeating.
Is the possibility of a donation from the RIPE community
something to put on the agenda for the next WG meeting?
