Niall, I'd like to add one line...
We're trying for something with the following characteristics:
something new and specifically focused, to avoid existing baggage; simplicity for sysadmins; simplicity for robot-builders; a simple message for marketing/evangelism. [ and doesn't break concepts or tools which are there already ]

if doing things correctly, i.e., the best way we know how, requires tool changes, so be it. job security for software engineers. remember, the goal is the best service, not inflexibility. randy
