Hello, thank you for the hint Makc. I did some changes on my code and now it works fine. The problem really was that WriteLine adds an extra \n at the end of the line. persistent connection

Hello all, attention bad english ahead! ;-) I'm writing a tool which queries the RIPE DB to find out the location of some IP adresses. When I query the database with a string like "84.149.135.10/16\r\n", i get a correct response and the tcp/ip connection will be closed by RIPE. But because I've to query some more IPs, i would like to let the connection open. As i read in the RIPE DB manual there is the "-k" flag which should tell the DB letting the connection open until I send an empty query. In telnet it works fine, but not in my tool. In my tool i'm sending a string like "-k 84.149.135.10/16\r\n" (in telnet i wrote "-k 84.149.135.10/16" + <return>). Hello all. My question is which network is assigned address physically on? According to http://www.ripe.net/ripe/docs/ipv4-policies.html, "an allocation is a block of IPv4 addresses from which assignments are taken... Sub-allocations are intended to aid the goal of routing aggregation... The minimum size of a sub-allocation is /24. This is the smallest prefix length that can be reverse delegated and allows for a reasonable number of small assignments to be made by a downstream network operator... The maximum size of a sub-allocation is /20 even if this is less than 400% of the LIR's AW (Local Internet Registries' Address Window). For example, an LIR with a /21 AW may not sub-allocate a /19 to a downstream network. However, downstream network operators may receive sub-allocations totalling more than a /20 from more than one LIR." I am too stupid to figure out what does it mean. Dear all, My name is Nguyen. I'm a newbee trying to deploy a RIPE database. I have a simple question and would be appriciate to hear from you. I've tried to search for the question but still could not find any answer. My questions: What is the purpose of the config port (default is 43002)? When I started the whois_server, it allways listens on this port. Is there any way to disable this or apply a authenticate mechanism on this port ? Thank you very much.
