RIPE89 Cooperation WG minutes
The draft minutes from the RIPE89 cooperation WG session are here: https://www.ripe.net/community/wg/active-wg/coop/minutes/cooperation-working... Julf, Desiree and Achilleas
Hi, Thanks for the draft minutes. I was excited to read, under 'WTSA 2024 Update', that: 'Only one resolution had been updated: Resolution 164 now included IP address allocation by the ITU.’ But when I reviewed Jim’s presentation it seems that this is not really a true reflection of what was said, which is probably a good thing. Could the minutes be updated lest this mischaracterisation grow legs and start running amok? Cheers! good catch Mat - Looking at Jim's presentation slides. Is this minute referring to his slide 5 which mentions Resolutoin 64 not 164 and says pretty much the opposite to the bottom section of the minutes. Streamlined Resolutions - Res 64 • IPv6 • Initial proposal was for no change • Updated and agreed text doesn’t hint at IP address allocation by ITU • => Future attempts to have an ITU-run RIR look doomed (for now) • Lots of security wording removed • New text says RIRs have a key role in IP address allocation • ITU-T to have a role in raising awareness if so a rewrite is needed. Based on the comments the minutes have been amended. In the WTSA 2024 Update section, the text "Only one resolution had been updated: Resolution 164 now included IP address allocation by the ITU.” has been changed to “Only one resolution had been updated: Resolution 64 now stated that RIRs had a key role in IP address allocation.” Julf On 11/27/24 20:55, Johan Helsingius via cooperation-wg wrote:

Third time lucky? A new version is up at https://www.ripe.net/community/wg/active-wg/coop/minutes/cooperation-working... The last point is now as follows: "Jim gave an update on the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA), the main decision-making body for the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T). The WTSA happened once every four years and conducted important governance processes for the body. The most recent event had just finished, with some controversy over new leadership positions. Additionally, Resolution 64 got updated to indicate RIRs have a key role in IP address allocation. He noted there was no new discussion on New IP." Yes this one is better… I would prefer THE WTSA takes place once every four years and conducts important governance processes for the body.
