Co-chair selection

Dear cooperation WG members, We are hereby inviting interested parties to express their interest in serving as co-chair for the cooperation WG. One of us, Desiree, is up for re-selection /after her first term/. Whilst she is willing to continue as co-chair, the group might feel that it is time for more new blood. At the same time we would like to point out that the other two of us co-chairs will be up for possible re-selection by RIPE89, so there will be more opportunities to refresh the group leadership if there is a feeling that it is needed. Discuss ISO-3166 mark TAIWAN as a Provinces of China on the RIPE NCC website

Dear Members of the Cooperation Working Group, I am Tsung-Yi Yu from Taiwan, a user of RIPE NCC's services since 2019 with a deep interest in Global Internet Governance. I wish to address the classification of Taiwan on RIPE NCC's website, particularly regarding Country Codes and RIRs: https://www.ripe.net/membership/member-support/list-of-members/list-of-coun…. Taiwan is listed as a "Province of China," which may cause confusion and misinterpretation. Some of the Individuals and legal entities in Taiwan are using RIPE NCC services like Atlas/RIPEstat. However, the current classification does not accurately reflect Taiwan's status. I reached out to RIPE NCC Support, learning that changes to this classification are currently not possible since they have already implemented the ISO-3166. Notably, the NRO/APNIC does not refer to Taiwan as a "Province of China" but rather by its "economy": https://www.nro.net/list-of-country-codes-in-the-apnic-region/ and https://www.apnic.net/about-apnic/corporate-documents/documents/corporate/a…. This approach avoids political sensitivities and ensures clarity. As I know, the RIPE NCC is operating under a Multi-Stakeholder model (community), and follows different guidelines from entities like the UN/IGF. Even the ICANN, does not label Taiwan as a "Province of China" outside its GAC committee. That's why I would like to discuss this in here and wish the RIPE NCC to reconsider its classification of Taiwan, promoting accuracy and respect in global internet governance. The organisers invite the EU-based multi-stakeholder community, including civil society organisations, the technical community, academia and the private sector, to share their insights and feedback on the GDC zero draft. Main takeaways and key objectives the European Commission is pushing forward through this initiative include: Making the telecom sector more attractive for investors and address “investments needs” for the deployment of future networks; Improving harmonisation of spectrum authorisation procedures and reduce administrative burdens across EU member states; Suggesting a revision of the European Electronic Communications Code (EESC) while seeking ways to reduce market fragmentation; Enhancing the resilience and security of telecom networks in Europe, notably through a “de-risking approach” to subsea cables. Dear members As a longstanding member of CENTR myself and on behalf of CENTR, I would like to invite you to participate in the Call for Proposals for the Jamboree 2024, a 3-day conference organised by and for European ccTLD community, taking place in Copenhagen on 29 - 31 May 2024. The CENTR Jamboree is a gathering of all CENTR’s Working Groups, from Legal to Technical, from Security to Marketing, R&D and Admin, and is open for external participation. CENTR opened a call for proposals for sessions led by both members and non-members of the CENTR community. Colleagues, We wanted to share a brief update on the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA). Yesterday, the European Parliament's Industry Committee formally endorsed the final text of the CRA following the political agreement reached in the Council in December 2023. The final vote will take place in plenary session on 11 March. Here is the latest version of the text: https://data.consilium.europa.eu/doc/document/ST-17000-2023-INIT/en/pdf We’ll continue monitoring this space, as the focus will be moving to the implementation phase, including discussions on secondary legislation meant to specify some key provisions of the CRA and the development of (voluntary) standards to support implementation and compliance. As a reminder, the RIPE NCC and RIPE Community have engaged with EU policymakers on several occasions, as you can read in our previous updates <https://labs.ripe.net/author/suzanne_taylor_muzzin/sanctions-cyber-resilien…>. RIPE NCC Internet Country Report: Türkiye

Dear colleagues, I’m pleased to announce the publication of our latest country report, this time focusing on the Internet landscape in Türkiye: https://labs.ripe.net/author/suzanne_taylor_muzzin/ripe-ncc-internet-countr… The report examines the country’s major market players and level of competition, Internet number resource holdings, IPv4 transfers and IPv6 readiness to understand Türkiye’s unique challenges and opportunities for future growth. We also analyse Internet resilience and stability by mapping the relationship between different networks in the country and their connectivity to the global Internet, access to root name servers, traffic paths and routing security. We hope you’ll find the report interesting and ask you to please share it widely within your network. And we’d be very interested to hear any questions or feedback you have.
