Dear colleagues, Following my request to participate in a survey last year, please find attached to this email the report Setting the Standard. It finalises an Internet Governance Forum pilot project concerning the slow deployment of internet standards, standards that, if deployed, would make the internet and all its users a safer place immediately. The report captures the outcomes and analyses of a survey, an interactive workshop, interviews and desk research into the causes of the slow adoption of standards by the internet (related) industry and provides recommendations on potential steps forward that can speed up said deployment. The recommendations and actions are accumulated and aggregated. Although most participants agree action is necessary, there is no consensus among them on the best way forward. The report does not make a preferred choice. Hence several and quite different options are presented that will influence or put pressure on those that decide to deploy; often a financial and not technical decision. As several of you have participated in the process, I send it to you for reference. If you have the option to disseminate the report further into your respective network, please feel free to do so.
