As a long-standing (30+ years) member of the RIPE community and as an NCC member just as long, I have gone through many of the changes and seen the landscape shift. My role at Netnod has always been one of cooperation and collaboration, and I've represented the technical community in countless fora, such as ICANN, the IETF, and discussions with the EU Commission, and also in other RIR contexts. My once technical job description has evolved into more and more policy work, and I believe that one field where I can contribute, is to make myself useful as a liaison with other groups, riding on the vast network of connections I have built up over the years. I also have a good understanding of the NCC's various roles and undertakings. In my view, the RIPE NCC plays a crucial player in the Internet infrastructure – both in the policy field and in maintaining technical resources – and it remains one of the sanest.
