How would you translate this into "generic 32bit AS number usability"? I do understand how folks like IXPs use 32bit ASNs, but the consequence of your statement would be "no IXP can have any 32bit participant, because someone with a Mikrotik router might not be able to set proper communities", which is not what happens in reality. So for the IXP ASN itself, I can see some stronger arguments for a 16bit ASN (because fallback to 16bit IXP:<thing> community values wouldn't work either, then) - but for everything else?
