APWG,
We should all think real long and hard about the possible long-term implications of what this proposal sets the foundation for.
We *have* been thinking long and hard about this. This proposal is nearly three years old. The operational community seems to think it is a good thing (there are over 400 LIRs using it already). Every other RIR has or will introduce it shortly. My knowledge of economics says that if there is a demand then someone will step in to satisfy it. If the community (as evidenced by this WG) tells the RIPE NCC not to implement this (or more precisely to withdraw the service they are already offering) then we simply open the way for private certification companies in the RIPE region. Everyone happy with that? Good.... then let's reject this proposal and continue to gaze at our own navels for the next three years. Nigel
