Could you explain, in simple words, why "100 /29s in a single LIR"
is something members *need*?

Nobody has given a proper answer for that so far (and the question has
been asked more than once) - and while stockpiling might be allowed
according to previous policies, it's not good stewardship - and this
is part of what we do here.  Good stewardship of Internet resources.

Policies permit allocation of huge blocks for huge networks, so if
you need lots of addresses, come and get a /19 - no need to hoard /29s
instead.
