gert, i am too busy to find the quote for you right now, but the essence is that EVERY size limit that has EVER been done in computing has proved to be to small in the long run. so perhape prudence in the presence of finite resource is not stupid. if v6's only feature is that you can be wasteful of the space, that is still not going to sell it. this too wa known at the time. but the ivtf was driven by a rush to silence "the internet is running out of addresses space" press and dropped the variable address length proposal, and also decided routing was not as important as political expedience. randy
